Problem with Immature Eggs

Hi all, as I waiting out my TWW, I am doing research on my cycle...18 eggs retrieved, only 6 mature.  It appears the problem of immature eggs is a rare one and I am wondering if i do another cycle, what will they do to make sure I dont have such a high number of immature eggs again?  I've read I could be resistant to Ovidril?  I am hoping she would change my protocol so this doesnt happen again.  Obviously I was bummed with the large number of drop off regarding feasible eggs.

If anyone else has experienced this and overcome it, let me know how!

Thanks :)

Hi Ladies...thanks!!!!  Yes, my first IVF.  I am a planner and always thinking ahead...  I will definitely ask about a different protocol if I have to.   I love this site... It is so great to have support from people going through the same thing.  Thank God for the web.  :)

I had an IVF cycle in the past where only 8 were mature and then only three fertilized, which was awful since only one made it to the transfer date so we did not do the transfer and did another cycle.  I am not sure since it was a while ago, but I think I may have only been on Gonal F back then.  For the second cycle which had much better results, I took Gonal and Menopur.  It was a much better cycle.  With my most recent IVF last August, we used Gonal and Menopur like before and 18 eggs were retrieved, all 18 were mature and 14 fertilized which was great!!  Unfortunately I have nto gotten pregnant since only three could be transferred since all of them were tested to see if they carried my disorder so they could only transfer the healthy ones and the testing affects the embryos.  I also know that Novarel in stead of Ovidrel worked so much better for me!  I hope your doctor can get your medications laid out right for you!

Hi Andrea, if I'm not mistaken, this is your first IVF cycle, right?  There is no doubt that your RE will change your medication for the next round to try to produce more mature eggs for retrieval.

When I did my first IVF cycle, I had never been on any infertility meds before, so my doctor had no idea how I would respond to them.  He gave me what he thought would be the best protocol for me, based on all of my test results.  As each cycle progressed, the cycles have gotten better and have produced more mature eggs.

Unfortunately, it's a bit of trial and error until your RE finds the right protocol that fits you.

Hope this helps.

Hi Adrea,  Sorry no one has answered yet. I don't have an answer. The only thing I have ever heard is about Clomid making "riper" eggs for women that have premature o. That is why some women say they o later on Clomid. I don't know what the answer would be with IVF :(
