Why Is my Progesterone level decreasing with high dosage of clomid?

I  have just gotten off the phone with my nurse and she said that my level was 6.3 and this was using 150mg of clomid so I got frustrated and told her that I want to be referred to a specialist she agreed now I have to just wait til they can fit me in. But she couldn't answer in why is it that when I was on 50 mg my level was 8, and then on 100mg it was 7.7 it has just went lower and lower.I keep thinking 150 mg was going to sky rocket the progestrone level but instead it decreased ? how can that happen?

Anybody that has useful info I would appreciate if you would share I am just feeling like there is something wrong with me.

Info on myself been with my hubby for 8 years,we have a 5 year old daughter,it 's been 2 years that we have been ttc but only 1 year has been with a obgyn. we have resently been working out. He has given up drinking even though it wasnt often doctor said would increase chances so its been about six months. We as a family want to add on to our family and it feels like every month when the nurse calls its bad news.

I read about pcos but the ob has never told me if I have that she just said she sees no reason since I have a daughter already that I couldnt concieve in the next six months well news for her that was six months ago.

My doc told me a progesterone over 5 means you ovulated also she said that while on the clomid it can mess up your estrogen and progesterone levels so she supplements me with using clomid Cd3-7, estradiol Cd8-12, and progesterone suppositories Cd17-30 or cont. if prego for 12 weeks. It is a good thing you are going to see a RE they will help out so much more. I can't wait for my appt. on sept 15th. Good luck

I am concerned that they aren't doing u/s monitoring, especially on higher doses. Clomid is notorious for causing cysts. I had to stop it due to that very reason. It caused what they called a "functional" cyst for me at 100mg and it was found on an u/s. I didn't o for 2 cycles because of the cyst and it was painful as well as frustrating. They should check to see if your follicles are growing at all while taking it and keep a close eye out for cysts. What cd are they doing the progesterone test? I see a lot of drs do it on cd21 and turns out it was too early as they were o'ing later on clomid so the progesterone didn't have enough time to build up by the time the blood was drawn. How long after the b/w does af show up?

Something as simple as an u/s can shed a lot of light on many different reasons for not conceiving. Also, Clomid is known for thinning your lining. Even if you do end up o'ing at 200mg, it is possible the lining could be too thin for implant. I am really surprised they are not monitoring. Let me know when you get the appt. I am sure a specialist will dig a lot deeper and get to the root of the problem for you.

thanks for considering my question about my progest. levels ,and no the obgyn I have now has never considered doing any ultrasound at all not even as so much call me with the results of any test they say that it is best for me to call but with all the money I give them you would think they could at least do that? No I havent did a opk at least for 4 months since they told me blood was better so they said there was no reason to go buy them if they knew I wasnt O? So they called a little while ago and said that they would try to find a RE for me but they still want to keep me on clomid now up the dosage to 200mg?OMG

Basically, your progesterone is in the same # range. from 6.3 to 8 is not a significant change. What the #'s are saying is Clomid is not working for you or you are ovulating later than what they think and they are not getting good #'s. Your progesterone is an up and down (within a range) type of number. Once o has occurred, it should really shoot up to show that. Have they done any u/s to see what's going on with your follies while on a medicated cycle? (or non medicated for that matter)

While clomid is a great solution for many, it is not the answer for all and doesn't work for everyone.  Please don't be discouraged. There are many other options. An RE is the best place to start. It doesn't sound to me like this dr is getting to the source of the problem at all. I imagine Waco has many great drs to pick from. It shouldn't take too long to get in. In the meantime are you charting your cycles and/or temps to see if it looks like you ovulate at all? Do you use opks or any other type of o detection?
