Does it work and how much would it cost? That never crossed my mind when I was there and I know that my insurance doesn't cover ANY fertility treatments..I'd appreciate any info...I have pcos and I know when I ovualte cause I use a clearblue fertility monitor every month...Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks Ashley

We have been trying since Sept 2004.  We tried the basal temp method, then the ovulation kits, then in 2005 I started taking clomide and did all the tests to see what was wrong and with who, then in 2006 we started on Letrozal (generic form of it) and the IUI's and finally in 2007 tried our last IUI in March/April after dealing with the pain of loosing our 6.5 yr old boxer to a brain anuism (they think) and then talked about adoption or spending the money on IVF.  I couldn't go thru with adoption until we at least tried to do IVF.  I am glad we made the decission we did...not that adoption would have been wrong either....but it was one of those things...I can't do adoption till I know for sure.

Good luck!!

I have been thru 4 IUI's.  As you can guess none of them worked.  You should check with your insurance, while many do not cover IVF (because it cost about $10,000) many will cover X number of IUI attempts.  Ours paid for 3, so our 4th one had to wait till the following year.  The good thing is that if your mate doesn't have enough good swimers to complete the IUI, it doesn't get counted as one of your X number that insurance will pay for.  IUI's are a toss up (as with all options).  They are by no means as painful as IVF--although there is pressure but if you know how to breath (from having cramps) you can relaxe much better.
The only thing I really saw it doing for me was that I was able to tell my body (when the dr said to) to ovulate w/ an HCG shot, then they put the sperm closer to the fallopian tubes.  My issue was that I didn't ovulate.  I had no blockage and no other problems were ever found--my husband is fine.

I had to make a disicion on weither to try IVF or adopt, as we felt we were not getting anywhere w/ IUI.  So far the choice for IVF was a good one...just hopping to make it to 3 months to tell everyone!!

Good luck in your decision.

Because it is sooo much easier for dh to be checked, you should definitely ask for that first!  Lifestyle easily affects men - and much more invasive to check women, so start there....I had my first IUI last month and it didn't work, but it led to a laparoscopy which found a huge cyst on my left ovary and something on my right...so I am hoping these next months bring my BFP!!

Good Luck!!

I had IUI done and became pregnant the first try.  But your dh should still get checked.  My husband also has a child from a previous relationship, but he was the one with the problem not me.  Things change.

Your dh should still get a s/a done. Things can change very quickly with a man to affect fertility.  What's she's talking about is an IUI. Many women here have had IUI's. Some it has worked quickly for and others it has taken 5 or more times.

i understand. I never had this procedure done, do it if you feel it is the only option. However just becasue he has had children before does not mean that there is nothing wrong with his "little men" now! Good Luck!

He already has a son from a previous marriage, so she really doesn't think that it is him....she thinks that it has to do with my pcos....My cycle and stuff were all messed up til she put me on the metformin and now they are doing much better....I started metformin in August 2006 and was preggo in Oct. But nothing has happened yet and her theory is that I am ovulating and that with a little help from the insemination that it would help....It's just so dang confusing and irritating....
