TTC Attack Plan/ BBT charting Question

Hello Everyone,

As I said in an earlier post this week, I'm new here, but not new to TTC. We have been on and off for a while. but we've never given it our all. As I said earlier I was diagnosed with PCOS Last year and have been on Metformin for about 4 months now and was given medroxyprogesterone/provera to start my cycle just recently so that we could be begin our journey yet again. Well today AF showed up and I am very happy because I had not seen her for a while and also this means it's time for our journey to begin!

My question(s) is/are

1. What was your TTC plan of attack (sorry I couldn't think of a another phrase or any other way to put it)? What did you start out with and Where are you now? What were the things that worked or aren't working and what was the solution or the next step(s) for you.

2. When am I suppose to start taking and charting my temperatures or using an OPK kit? Also how do you get your CDs to show up on that Ovulation Ticker thing (that's not really important, it's just bugging me that I can't get it to work)

Like I said I am not new to trying to concieve I'm just new to actually giving it my all. I was on clomid for a while and then we stopped because at that time the side effects were killing us both. We never used OPK's Charted, ETC I just went back to the doctor when she told me to come and that was it. Anyhoo,  now we know what to expect with the side effects, but clomid according to my RE is the next option if Metformin alone doesn't regulate my cycle/ovulation and get us that bundle of joy that we've been hoping and praying for for so long.

I guess what Im looking for is a "How To" or a "Get Started" guide from ladies that have been there and not the "Everything Book of Conception/Pregnancy"

Please help if you can and good luck to everyone!!!!! BABY DUST AND LOTS OF IT!

I am glad it helped. Yep, basal temps are only "basal" if taken before ANY activity. Even laying in bed for a few minutes will change your temp. It starts rising from the second you wake up. It really jumps when you stand up and start moving around.  Good luck! I'm happy to help any time you need it :)

Thank you so much this helps alot and I have a bit of cold, so that's probably what's going on with my temps and thanks so much for the help with the chart, Also I didn't take a temp when I first woke up, I took them in the afternoon, but I guess that answers my other question! Thanks, I'll remember to take my temp early in the AM or at least when I wake up! Thanks again I really appreciate it this, Also I have a flow now so I will change it, because when I put the information on this it was earlier and tonight we're full on AF, she hadn't been here for a while and now she's back...and whoa! Anyhoo thanks again I really appreciate all of your help and you're right there are a lot of great ladies here and the advice so far has been wonderful! Thanks Again!!:)

Good Luck to everyone and plenty of sticky baby dust!

Hi Robyn,

Welcome to the forum. I hope you get some good info and meet some new friends here. There is a great group of women with good advise from firsthand experience.

I looked at your chart and can help a little. It would put a cd on until you show "light" or "medium" for the menses. Spotting can be things other than af, so it won't count it unless it is actual "flow".  Second, your temps are really, really high. Are you using a basal thermometer? Are you temping immediately upon waking, before getting out of bed?  Normally, pre-o temps will be in the 96-97's. There are a very small handful of women that run 98 and over for pre-o. But, there is usually an extenuating circumstance.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks ladies, this helps alot and I will be heading to the bookstore in a couple of hours to get the book! I will also try the OPK but yeah I heard that it's a bit tricky for those of us with PCOS, but heck it's worth a shot! Can't Hurt? I will also start taking my temps today so at least I can get started with adding that to my daily routine. Thank you so much I sincerely appreciate it!

Temping is a good place to start.  You just need to remember that it won't tell you before you have O'd, only after.  It's a tool to look at in hindsight and to predict when you are mostly likely to O for your next cycle.  Although I don't know how that works with PCOS.  OPK's will tell you when you are going to O, but again I have read that they can be confusing for women with PCOS.  You can also track CM and CP.  I agree with vmvnpv, Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weshcler is a fantastic read and almost a "must have" for anyone undertaking charting.  She's a great author and it is a very easy read.

I started charting my temps and looking for the EWCM.  OPK tests help many women.  Because of my situation none of the above worked for me until I got on Clomid.  I had major side effects too and even gained weight.  I would start charting on the first day of you next period.  That way you get an idea of what your pre-o temp is and what your post-o temp is.  You can keep track with fertilityfriend.com.  It tells you when your most fertile days are and when you may have O'ed.  If you haven't read Taking Charge Of Your Fertility I strongly recommend it.  It taught me a lot I didn't know.  Good luck!
