Timed intercourse

Is Ovidrel necessary if I don't do IUI nor IVF, just timed intercourse? Can I just OPK to monitor or I must go to Doctor's office with ultrasound monitoring?

The reason I am asking this is my insurance doesn't cover the treatment but doctor requires this which is too expensive for me.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Yes, that was without insurance. Not sure how much they would charge the insurance company, but I know they had special rates for those who had to pay out of pocket. Unless you really like the RE you're seeing, it might be worth looking into a few others to see how much they charge. Good luck!

Is $200 out of pocket without any insurance? They know my  insurance doesn't cover, so that's what I have to pay, and they know I was on furghough since last September.

Thank you so much for your reply, that makes me think that I need to change a doctor. I am on clomid already so don't know if I can switch in the middle of a cycle.

Yeah, that's it. Clomid is sometimes given without monitoring, but Gonal-F is a much stronger fertility drug, and like misslollipop said, they need to monitor how your body responds to it. How many times do they want you to come in each cycle? The norm is usually a baseline scan on day 3 to make sure you don't have any cysts from the previous cycle (in which case taking fertility drugs can make the cysts continue to grow), and then another scan around day 12 or so (depending on when you normally ovulate) to see how many follicles you have. But $500 per visit sounds very high to me. I think mine charged $200 for a visit and ultrasound (or was it $100?). Ask if they have different rates for people without insurance...as the insurance companies often pay only a portion of the actual rate, anyway.

due to being on the gonal f, will have to go in for monitoring to see whether you are making too many follicles, which could then lead to OHSS (ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome) which is not good and they will have to monitor the dosage of gonal f and adjust it to your needs.

I have asked the nurse if I could just do it without coming to office for monitor, because I really don't need it and it cost too much, $500 per visit, or I pay at front a globe fee of $1650. But she told me I must come for monitoring (otherwise how can they make money?)

All I need for now is clomid and intercourse at home, if we fail, we are going to stop here since my husband is against IUI and IVF.

I am on Clomid and will inject Gonal-F on day 9. When I had my first child, my GYN doctor gave me clomid and I did on my own.

This time clomid is double 100mg plus Gonal-F, I just wonder if I go on my own without doctor's monitor if there will be any danger.

If you ovulate on your own, you could just do OPKs...but as for monitoring, it probably depends on whether or not you're on any other meds. If you are, your doctor may need to monitor you to make sure you don't overstimulate or have other side effects.
