What is best 2, 3 or 5 day transfer

Hello,
After a failed IVF we are going for the FET, I am preparing myself for the FET and I am a bit confused. The first round of IVF the egg retrirval was on Friday April 1 and the transfer was on Sunday April 3, therefore I believe it was a 2 day transfer. I need to know which is best a 2,3 or 5 transfer. I have the appointment with the doc to see what went wrong this Thursday so I would like to be prepared and decide which day to suggest to my doc. I would really appreciate anybodys help with this.

Thanks!

The problem with 2 day transfers is they cannot tell if the embryos are viable or not.  My old RE froze things on day 2.  Long story short, we changed RE's, had the last 7 thawed and tried to get to day 5, sadly only 1 made it to day 5, and it wasn't the best quality.   I would question why they were frozen on day 2, and ask if when they are thawed, if you can let them go to day 3 or 5.  If not, you nor the RE can tell how healthy, viable the eggs are.  Good Luck!!

Hello,
My husband works at the SU embassy in Chihuahua, Mexico, our doc seems to be the best in the region, I think th eproblem is more me. I get nervous and go blank when I have my appointments. I already did my "Questions to Ask Doc" for tomorrows appointment. But I promise for my own sake to ask whatever my doubts are. Thanks

I think it also depends on how many embryos you have. If you have a lot of them then it's better to wait for day 5 that way the RE would know which ones are the best to transfer. However, if only have 2-3 the RE may opt to put them all back in on day 3 to give you increased chances since they are probably better inside your uterus anyway.
Hope this helps!

It all depends on the quality of the embryos, at least at most clinics.  If the embryos look superstar, the clinic will do a 5-day transfer.  If they look like they might not make it five days if left in the lab, they will transfer them earlier, in hopes that they will do better in the uterine environment than they would in the petri dish.  Ask your doctor why the decision was made to do a 2-day transfer.

Hi Paloma,

If you are using the same embryos that you froze last time for your FET, then they will still be 2 day transfers.

Where do you live?  It sounds like you need a better doctor who explains things more detailed and clearly for you.

Best of luck!

FET worked for us!
