ita17- pcos is a defect of one of our chromosomes it happens at conception.  it is hereditary. so if i have a baby girl she has a 50% chance of having it too.

prosncons- yes it is the clear blue digital ovulation test. that is what my doctor recommended and on the package insert it says it is accurate with fertility treatment.

LILI1206-  counting the days to af, me too i'm 12 days past my last pill of prometrium.  maybe our next cycle will be close.

researchers arent quite sure of it but it can be hereditary for example my sister has it and shes been ttc for the last 4 years. my grandma has it and before she got it she had my dad her only child, my grandma says she got it from an excessive amount of weight gain, she gained 70lbs in a year. i gained 60lbs in a year and and a half  im glad i was skinny before so it doesnt look so bad. i dont believe there is a cure i think u just have to maintain healthy and lose weight, because more serious problems can come about...basically u can kinda know if u have it because it can cause weight gain facial hair, it can also cause you to never get ur period or always be on it and of course it can cause infertility problems. u can get an ultrasound done on your ovaries and if there are many follicles or cysts on your ovaries u most likely have pcos... i hope  i answered all your questions

How do you get pcos? Some of you are so young!  Is it basically a hormonal imbalance?  & is it something that CAN be reversed?  I'm very curious. How do you know if you have it?

i was doing a little research on to what the signs of ovulation and they said usually a womans mucous gets thick and it stretches a few cm it sounds gross but u kinda have to stick ur finger up there. but what i usually do is take some toilet paper and put it up there thfn just examine it, its more comfortable they also say that a woman may want to have more sex than usual. just go to google and type in signs of ovulation... good luck

Hi! the clear blue digital tests are good for pcos and clomid? I just want to make sure you meant the digital ovulation test by clear blue. because i went to the pharmacist and they gave me a name of a product that cost $80 for one month supply. I have been using the chart of temps n etc i swear my temps are way off and i can't tell anything. Please if you have any advice on how to know/what to use to know you are ovulating.

the clear blue digital tests are good for pcos and clomid.   with test strip opks i get false positives every cycle.  ask your doc to do a cd21 progesterone to see if you ovulated with the clomid.  I had to ask my doc didn't want to test either.

LILI1206- when can you start the aygestin?

Hi! I too have pcos and ttc for over a year now and to top it off i have hasimotos thyroid. Metformin is recommend to take along with clomid to increase your chances. I have been taking metoformin for the past 4yrs on n off to regulate my periods but no luck so than i was switched over to metformin HCI extended release have been on it for abt 2.5 months. according to my endo it can take any from 1-3 months in your system to work.
I have a question does your doc tell you to take any follow up test after taking clomid or anything? because mine just told me to take it and test the LH levels with the ovulation kits but i used the 1st response and they told me it didn't work for me since i have pcos?

No children yet, the way things look right now i think i'm going to have to do IVF.   you pharmacy should be able to tell you if it's safe or you can call any 24 hr pharmacy.  I'm on a lot of meds for other health problems i have called them a few times.  Do you have many cysts?  The u.s. tech that did my us said she had only seen one other woman with as many cysts as mine, of course she couldn't remember if that woman EVER got pregnant.  I do have two friends who got pregnant within two months of met and clomid, hopefully it will work that way for you once you start the met.

I take prometrium to have af which is safe to take with metformin, you should see if your doc can switch you.  the longer the metformin is in your system the better it works.

ok thanks for the info. by the way i got my prescription and i take 2 500mg of metformin a day for thirty days. i haven't started taking them yet because i haven't started my AF. and if i dont start i have to take another med. called aygestin and my doc said do not take them together so im going to wait and see if i start this week. last month i needed aygestin to start my AF because i hadn't had it for 9 mnths, due to the PCOS. by the way crystal is a healthy drink for u to drink and also wylers but i know water is the best. thanks again for all your response they're greatly appreciated

to start with nausea, diarrhea and i would get light headed if i didn't eat frequently, but i have hypoglycemia so that shouldn't be a problem for you.  lately i have had really bad cramps in my calves so bad that i can't move my leg!  my doc doesn't seem to think it's related to the metformin but after doing dome research i found out metformin can cause your kidneys to work harder causing dehydration which causes muscle cramps.  My doc did blood work to check my kidneys friday which she said was ok.  I stopped drinking soda and coffee so i don't make things worse.  all i can say is drink lots of water, lots!  and if you do have a muscle cramp get some pedialyte, it helped me a lot.

Like i said with the metformin I only had side effects the first few days, are they having you step up the dosage or start at full strength?  I took 500mg for a week then 1000mg for a week then stayed at 1500mg.  I can't imagine what the side effects would have been like if i went straight to 1500mg.  I'm here any time you need to talk or vent.

Hi I also have pcos and have been ttc for 2 and half years.  I did three rounds of clomid up to 150mg with no ovulation, but i had a positive opk every month (some women with pcos have naturally high lh).  Then i was diagnosed with pcos and put on metformin 1500mg aside from the first week of side effects it has been wonderfull.  I have done two rounds of clomid since starting the metformin and i still have not ovulated but i do have significantly less cysts than before the metformin.  I think you should start the metformin right away, it can take up to 6 weeks to have full effect so the sooner it gets in your system the better.  Most women actually have a normal period after 4 weeks  on metformin and some start to ovulate on just met without the clomid.  But the combo of the two drugs seems to work really well for most pcosers.  Good luck with everything, baby dust to you!

I would give the clomid a few more cycles, if you know u o'd w/ 100mg it may take a few cycles to actually get preggo, but if you know clomid is working I would stick w/ it at least 3-4 cycles...are you sure you are ovulating on the clomid??? if not ur dr can increase the dose til u do o then try that dose a few cycles...good luck
