TTC means trying to conceive. Let me know how the geritol works out. I really don't know anything about it and would be interested to hear how you think it does. I don't think you'll get anything from leaving the semen in I know that you are doing the right thing and it's supposed to be good to do what you're doing right after sex. They even made me lay still there on the table for several minutes after the IUI and there is no way it can fall out with a IUI but they still said it was good for me to just lay there. Also they told us to have sex that night because they said it would help with the IUI. No, I don't mind you asking one little bit. I can tell you how much it cost me but pricing is a really hard thing to do because it all depends on what your insurance will cover. It turned out my insurace covers most of the monitoring/blood work, etc. I still have co-pays, etc... and that goes for the medicine too but if it hadn't been for the insurance covering most of it then I don't know that we would have been able to afford it. The IUI procedure itself isn't covered and my doctor charged us $238 for it. We had to use a sperm donor though so the specimen we bought was already washed and prepared and ready to use. I think it costs more if they have to wash and prepare the specimen for use. What we did before we went to see the specialist was call the insurance company and ask what was covered. Also, we spoke with the doctor about cost up front at our initial meeting with him so we could make sure that things didn't get out of hand. I hope I've been of some help! I'll let you know how tomorrow goes, keep me updated with what's going on with you too :)

Now that I think about it I have seen some at home tests to check sperm count. I didn't purchase any myself because I really have no idea if this is just some gimmick to steal money from people or the real deal. I was skeptical so we just let a lab that our family doctor uses do the first test. The second test the urologist that my OB/GYN referred my husband to, did the test. They just repeated it to make sure there wasn't some error with the labwork and that he really did have a 0 sperm count. I'm not sure about the ovulation kits. I bought one once but all it really did was say yes or no (and of course MINE always said no) but unless I'm just really unaware of it (and I very well could be) I don't think there is anything out there that will tell you how many follicles, etc... (there again, I could be wrong but...). I really think that a vaginal ultrasound is the only way to tell this. Seriously, I would wait a little bit until I see how I respond to the meds. You never know that alone could do the trick for you if you have a "mild" case so to speak. Then I would follow up with my OB/GYN and see where I"m at and where I stand. Your OB/GYN or family doctor might be able to do the sperm assessment on him. Ours was. You might be able to go ahead and get that done while you get used to the meds. ? I hope I've been some help :)   Let me know how everything goes for you !

Yeah, you'll have to go to a doctor to get a sperm assessment done on him. Hopefully everything will be OK but don't get too stressed out if it isn't because there are other things that can be done if something is off. It isn't the end of the world! :)

About your eggs I would talk to my OB/GYN about being referred to a fertility doctor (i.e. a reproductive endocronologist) if you're having problems ttc. Personally I don't really ovulate on my own or if I am it's so far between times and so unlikely that I would get pregnant from it that it's a shot in the dark. Plus my husband was diagnosed with azoospermia meaning he has 0 sperm count. His was due to genetic factors so we had no other option but to see a fertility specialist and go with a sperm donor. That's a rare thing from what I've been told and from what I've read though so don't let me scare you by typing that!!!!!!! It is rare!!! I would just talk to my OB/GYN about everything and see what he/she says. My fertility doctor watches me very closely. I've seen some women type in that they've had three to four follicles at the point of IUI or when the trigger shot was released or whatever. I had two last cycle (which they had to monitor me to find this out they did a vaginal ultrasound) that emerged. This cycle it looks like I have one that's trying to emerge dominant. I went in on Friday to see I was ready but the follicles weren't big enough so I have to go back in on Monday for more monitoring. Oh well :) Everything takes time I guess. I'm trying to be more patient :) Keep me updated on how you're doing :)

Yeah, it's hard to stick with it I know. If it gets too difficult I would definitely talk to my doctor about switching me to Fortamet. It's the same thing but it has a coating on it so it's very easy on the stomach and helps tremendously with a lot of side effects ot you could talk to your doctor about either reducing the dosage and working you way up to a higher dose or splitting up the dose, taking half now and then half later. Also, I've seen where some women say not to get the regular stuff to get the time released medicine. I've only ever taken the time release medicine so I wouldn't know about the other but this is just what I've heard. Hopefully someone else will be able to comment on what a good ovulation test to use would be. I don't use an ovulation test and I don't chart anything because my periods are so out of control and I'm not ovulating on my on so they have to force it and then just monitor me! :)           What count?

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was around the age of 22. I am now 30. When I was first diagnosed my OB/GYN at the time put me on Glucophage (same thing as metformin). It made me sick as a dog. I was throwing up for three weeks straight until  I finally refused to take it. I refused to try anything else. At the time I had very few PCOS symptoms, no weight problems, no insulin resistance, etc... Fast forward to about age 27 or 28, my current OB/GYN when I first went to see him and told him I was diagnosed with PCOS said that I needed to be on medicine really badly. I point blank told him that I am NOT taking Glucophage or metformin so don't even try it. He said OK did the tests determined that yes I did in fact have PCOS and prescribed Fortamet for me. So, basically for my own good he tricked me. It's essentially the same thing as Glucophage and Metformin but has a coating on it for your stomach. No more throwing up, no nausea,, etc... After about a year and half on the Fortamet I decided that due to price reasons I wanted to try the Metformin again. This time I could actually handle it but it started causing me to have really really low blood sugar in the afternoon. So I started taking it last thing after dinner just before I went to bed with about half a bottle of water. It still took months and months and months to get used to it but I am used to it. When we started ttc my OB/GYN upped my dosage from 500 mg a day to 1500 mg a day. He was trying to get me up to 2000 but 1500 is my limit for right now. I might try to go up again later. I upped my dosage very slowly on my own as I felt comfortable as he had instructed me to until I got up to the 1500. I am very thankful to have the OB/GYN that I now have. If I had not be so ridiculous back several years ago and tried some different forms of this medicine from the start then maybe I wouldn't have developed the weight problems and the insulin resistance that I now have. Since I've been on the 1500 mg. and have tried (once again) cutting calories and exercising I 've found that this time around I've actually lost weight (22 pounds). Another great benefit that I've had from the metformin is that when I went to the fertility doctor the nurse told me during the ultrasound that she could tell that I take my metformin religiously because I have no ring of cysts around my ovaries. I hate taking medicine but after years of rejecting it I've learned instead to try different things. My sister is a pharmacy tech. and she said that can be true with other medications as well. She said there are various forms of Loratab and some people can't take one of those forms because it gives them headaches and makes them sick. I found this out after asking her if she knew of anyone who had taken a Loratab and gotten a migraine from it because my doctor had prescribed some for me that I couldn't take due to this reason. When my OB/GYN put me on the metformin he did say that for some women this will balance them out enough so that their cycles will start and get on track. This didn't happen with me at all so I was put on clomid. I had horrible side effects with the clomid so I told the fertility doctor this and for this second attempt with IUI I am on femara instead. I haven't hear a thing about geritol. I really just though that it was a vitamin and if that's the case although it may be beneficial to your body I don't think that it will specifically address the problems associated with PCOS. If there is any way that you can I would try a different form of metformin. I would definitely try something else out and not just give up on it. This medicine it took a long time for me to know that there were any benefits from it at all. The major benefit I couldn't feel or see with my own eyes but the ultrasound picked it up and so did the blood tests. It's easy to want to give up on something when the results aren't right in front of our faces and easy to see. PCOS is serious and can lead not only to weight gain and insulin resistance but to diabetes, heart disease, stroke, depression, and of course problems with infertility. If you ever want to chat I'm here for you. Good luck!!!!
