Femara success for unexplained infertility?

Has anyone had any luck with taking femara for unexplained infertility? I'm 29 and have been off the pill since March 2009, actively TTC since November 2009.  DH's counts are normal, my tubes are open, I ovulate on my own and my uterine lining is good.  RE is having me start femara this cycle (days 3-7).  Has anyone had luck with taking femara (without IUI) for unexplained infertility?

Oh boooo - I just re-read your post - I thought your question said any luck with or without IUI.  sorry about that - as you can see by my response, we had an IUI.

Hey Niki - thanks for the congrats!

The Femara would make me a little bit moody and irritable on the days that I would take it.  At least thats what i would blame it on!  When i was on the larger dose, it bumped O back by two days.  Other than that - no side effects.

I had tried Clomid for one month, and it thinned out my lining and made me a huge grump, so the Femara was much gentler in my opinion.

I hope you have success with it too!  (by the way, I didnt mention that I'm 37, so things normally take a little longer when you get a little older)

Hi there.

We also had inexplained infertility.  All tests were clear - HSG, Laparaoscopy, bloodwork, 2 different kinds of semen analyses - apparently nothing wrong!

I tried femara for about 4 months, always produced one mature follicle on each ovary on 5mg.  In April we decided to try IUI.  My RE was out of town and his business partner performed what i thought was a very poorly timed IUI. We did not have success.

We did another IUI in may.  This time my Femara dose was increased to 7.5mg.  When i went in for my day 9 scan, the RE said that things did not look good.  I had only one large follicle and a thin endometrium.  When I still hadnt O'd by day 14 (was monitoring OPKs) i went in for another scan.  This time i had 2 follicles that were big enough to contain viable eggs.  One at 22mm and one at 16mm.  The RE decided to have me do a trigger shot that night, and the IUI was performed 2 days later.  And good news!!  After one year of casually trying, one year of charting and OPKing and 14 months of seeing the RE, we are FINALLY pregnant!!!

Things are still early right now - we arent due until the end of january - but it is such a relief to know that I can get pregnant, I'm just totally in shocked that after all that time, it finally worked!!!

Best of luck to you and your husband,

g
