fertile period vs ovulation day

I am a little confused about the fertile period and ovulation day. Why is it called a fertile period? Does it mean you can get pregnant during this time and if so how does it differ from ovulation day?

Your fertile window is the few days leading up toovulation. This is when your cervix is open and sperm can enter the uterus/felopian tube and wait to fertilize the egg when ovulation happens. Also sperm can survive 2 days in your body. My goal is sex every two days around my ovulation window.
