If you are on Clomid, you should be monitored to some extent. Since I started out with my OB/GYN, all they did was a 7DPO bloodwork. It checked my progesterone level and if it's higher then a certain number then you have O'd. Clomid is also known to cause cysts, so my dr made me come in for a pelvic exam right before the end of my cycle. If you are going through an RE, they will probably do a little bit more work like a pre-O u/s to check your follies.
so_frustrated, good luck to you! I was wondering, how do you find outr whether or not Clomid makes you ovulate? do you go to the doc for monthly checks?
I agree with the others who commented, go for it!!!!! You have nothing to lose. I am on my second month of Clomid and hoping to get pregnant!! I never got my period on my own, so I have to take provera to get my period before I take the clomid and metformin. Clomid is not expensive and not invasive. I didn't experience much side effects with the Clomid. I felt dizzy and lightheaded the first two days and the remaining three days I felt fine. I didn't ovulate on month one,so I hope it will happen on month two! Best wishes to you both!
I agree with the other ladies, and I say go for it. It's a fairly inexpensive, non-invasive first step. I've done 2 rounds of Clomid, 1 round of Femera and now I'm doing another round of Clomid this cycle.
As vnvmpv said, just be aware of the side effects after you O.
After 5 fresh and 3 frozen IVF cycles and countless "perfect embryos", I am FINALLY 10 weeks and 5 days pregnant with a singleton!!
Good luck.
Thanks for weighing in. I guess I'm thinking to proceed. The factors I was taking into account were twins and summer plans, in that order. But two babies are better than no babies, for sure. We can handle that, if it happens.
Vmvnpv, I don't know if he said those days were necessarily late. He was just speaking to my short LP and having time to implant. Mostly he was just worried about irregularity. I hadn't thought of the temps thing, so I was looking at the 2 months I did chart temps and one of them certainly follows a normal arc. The other was messy, but I don't think I was charting at the same time each morning by then (got lazy).
I never thought that it was possible to get + OPKs at different times in the month. I usually take them and get nothing until it's + one day and then I stop. So I guess it's possible I'm not really O-ing. Will post when my blood test comes back.
Thanks again. Where are you two in this process?
I'm surprised he said that CD15-CD20 was late for ovulation. Most women ovulate anywhere from CD12-CD20 (from what my doctor told me). When I was on Clomid I o'ed on CD18. Because you have irregular periods you may not be ovulating at all? Just a thought because that's the case with me. I would get +OPK's all the time but 3 or 4 of them at different times in the month which indicated I wasn't o'ing. But like you said, because there's a + doesn't necessarily mean you are going to ovulate. The only way to tell if you did is to check your temp everyday and look for when it goes up (meaning you o'ed). I would do Clomid now instead of waiting. It will help to regulate your periods and get your ovulation schedule narrowed down. I didn't get pg while on Clomid but it was because of complications on both mine and DH's part (nothing dramatic but Clomid didn't help our situation). Hopefully it will work for you. Just be aware of the side effects. They tend to be the same as when you are pg. Good luck!
I haven't done clomid myself but my attitude is why delay things? I mean, at your age, there's no major hurry so of course you can keep trying but if something as simple as taking some tablets might mean getting pregnant right away, why not?
It's a rhetorical question... like I said, I haven't done it myself so maybe there is a reason why not to do it and maybe despite the clomid, you might have other reasons to prefer to wait.
Good luck either way.
