HCG Shot too early, cancel cycle?

Is it possible for the HCG shot to work even if done wayy before I would naturally O?

I'm kind of worried.. My dominant follicle was only 18.5mm when my RE told me to do the hcg trigger that night (tues).  So I did it - and I go in for my IUI Thursday morning.  The thing is I don't think the shot took, Like at all.  I did it right but usually in the past (with clomid) I've had strong O pains and I knew I was o'ing b/c I felt it.. With this I feel absolutely nothing, AND my natural Ovulation doesn't happen until cd 16, I did the trigger cd 12, So very early for me.. This whole thing feels so rushed.  I feel so dumb for listening to her,  I had plenty more follicles at 16-17 right behind the big one, I should have waited until my natural surge..  So I don't think I will ovulate anytime soon - my cm isn't right yet, and I just took a HPT 24hours after the HCG shot, faint faint positive,  So either I metabolized the entire shot already, or it didn't even absorb.   Will the HcG work even if my body isn't ready for it??  I go in for my IUI tomorrow morning but would it be smarter to just call and reschedule 2 days from now??  HELP!!

I took a trigger shot blind and on my 12 day cycle.  My husband lives in a different country and I was visiting him around the time of ovulation.  I took fertility drug that starts with the letter "L", then i started estrogen on the 9th day (i need to take this bc i usually do not produce much of my own estrogen and the fertility drug that I take stops estrogen production in my bod) After i took the shot and returned home, I saw the doctor and he only saw a small possible follicle, i had blood work to see if I had ovulated and it came back negative on ovulating.  Of course I am sad and confused about it.  I have ovulated every time before so was wondering if anyone things that I took the trigger shot too soon and if so could it stop the growth of any follicle I did have?  Ooh some background here, I am 41 yrs old and I have for many years now since I have been with a fertility doctor now since I was 36 have only been able to produce one fully grown follicle to a mature size.  My concern today is.....did taking the trigger shot to early cause me not to ovulate because my follicle was not fully grown??

Thanks, reading that helped!.. I had the IUI this morning and I know I still haven't O'd so I'm just hoping those swimmers hold on! Do you think I still have a good chance of success if IUI was 36 hours past trigger, but I don't actually ovulate til 48 hours after trigger?

You are going to be fine! Your follicle size sounds good! The HCG trigger shot will work, but you have to give it time... It takes 36-40hours AFTER taking it for you to O! That's why your IUI isn't till Thur.... You wouldn't want to O today and have IUI tomorrow!! And another thing to think about is that your follies grow 1-3mm a day so your 18mm will be over 20 and the 16-17mm ones will also be 19-20 which is considered mature...and with the trigger shot ALL the mature eggs will release!!!! With your natural surge, only one will release!

Give your doc some credit, I'm sure she/he knows she/he is doing :-)

I wish you the best of luck & lots of baby dust!!!
