Brownish red discharge

I am having a brownish red vaginal discharge for last 2 days. I am in my mid cycle. I am on a oral contraceptive pills. Another thing to mention here is that i forgot to take a pill some 2 days back and then had to take 2 pills together the next day. Although I am also using condoms as a safety after that but I have had sex before the day i forgot the pill. Could this be a symptom of any problem or is this discharge normal??

Elaine,

Thanks so much for your response. To add to my problem, now I am having the discharge as normal as the usual period wheras my periods are due after 2 weeks. Can this also be a side effect of missing 1 or 2 pills ?

Hi!  Your discharge was almost certainly caused by missing the pills.  Any time you miss even one, but especially more than one, you are very likely to get some break through bleeding.  This can last off and on until your period. Your period may be unusual too--extra light possibly.  Your best bet is to do exactly what you are doing--use a back up method like condoms and keep taking your pills as directed.  Your cycle should go back to normal with your next pack.  It never hurts to take a preg test to be sure, but you are probably OK.

Good luck!

Also, today the discharge is like the normal period like blood but very less as compared. Could it be that I have conceived and is now having a miscarriage ?? Please reply as I am getting really worried now.
