Oestrogen

Hi Dr I hope you do not mind me posting this question to you within your Speciality. I have tried to put it forward on the Ovarian Cancer Forum Expert but it is continually full each day. I did post  my query on the Menopause Expert Forum and I have had no reply as yet.   Folowing OVCA I had the thorough Surgical Staging and was blessed with no spread. Can you tell me is Oestrogen only secreted by the Ovaries tumours were receptive to Hormone so therefore I must avoid any form of this. Thankyou Scoob

Hi!  No problem about posting it here!  I think I can give you the answer to your question.
Estrogen (are you Brittish?) is produced mainly by the ovaries and also in the fatty tissues of the body.  Ovarian tumors are not typically sensitive to estrogenic stimulation ( in other words--estrogen does not cause the cancer to recur). I give my ovarian cancer patients the option to take hormone replacement--they (just like everyone else) have to decide whether the benefits (in terms of life style) outweigh the risks (increased risk of BREAST cancer)
