abnormal test results

abnormal test results

I am 27yrs old, have never had children and have been on the pill for about 12years. I went off of the pill in Jan- May 2007. While off the pill my cycles were all over the place- ranging from 30-45days in length, lasting about 7 days or so. SOmewhat heavy bleeding, and some pain- not too horrible. Because my cycles were so crazy- my doc sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound and a pelvic ultrasound. It came back "endometrium slightly prominent". Now, the day after the test- I got my period. Is there any chance that the test could have shown that because my uterus was full of blood, or do you think it could be something more? I have to go this Friday for a repeat. I went back on the pill and am on the second pack- do you think it will still show abnormal? Is there a chance it could be cancer or would that show up in the ultrasound? Could it be endometriosis? When I am on the pill, everything is good. It is just when I am off of it. When I was off of the pill, I also experienced other symptoms such as pain sometimes during sex, shooting pain up my rectum(once in awhile), abdominal bloating from time to time throughout the month.Do you think it was something else, for instance, a cyst or tumor- wouldnt the ultrasound have said that? Or do you think it could have been just because of my period coming? If that is the case, because I am on the pill now, my new results shouldnt show that right? Doesnt the pill stop it from building up? Thank you so much!!!

You could also have endometriosis.  Your symptoms sound similar to mine.  Rectal pain, bloating.  The only way they can truly diagnose endo is with a laparoscopy but it can elevate your CA 125 levels.  I've learned to always advocate for myself with the docs.  I think the best treatment (I've been on it for a while) is birth control pills if it isn't too severe.  But if you are having pain, push them to look further.  Good luck!

I also agree with the endometriosis. A few years ago I had the exact same symptoms. Heavy bleeding, abdominal pain. bloating, etc. I didnt think anything of it and chalked it up to PMS.I had been on the pill for 15 years off and on between children. My pap tests Always came back abnormal and my gyn told me as per my results it wasnt anything too serious and that I shouldnt worry about it. Because I have heart issues, I was told to discontinue the use of birth control pills. A few months after I stopped using the pill my periods were unbearable, to the point of not being able to function. I went to see a new dr. and they ran all kinds of tests on me including sonograms. I was told I had ovarian cycsts and endometriosis. My case however was so severe I had to have a complete hysterectomy at the age of 33!  After having the hysterectomy in Jan. of 2006 I feel 100 % better.  The results from the biopsy showed no cancer just he endo. I am not saying that will be your outcome, that was just mine, however your symptoms do sound identical to mine. I was even at the point where I couldnt stand to have intercourse with my husband because of the pain and discomft. You may want to ask your Dr. about the possibility of endometriosis and/or ovarian cycts. Good luck to you!!
