could it be an ectopic pregnancy?

I had a tubal ligation after the birth of my daughter three years ago.  about four months ago, I had an endometrioma excised and the dr found no other endo tissue anywhere.  Since then, I have felt really good.
About a week and a half ago, I got very sharp stabbing pains during sex. Afterwards, I could barely walk and could not sit unless I sat on a heating pad. The next day, the pain went away.  I thought either an ovarian cyst may have ruptured or the endo came back.
The next day I thought I was getting a UTI. I used a test strip, which was negative. a day later, those symptoms went away. Since then, I have had daily headaches, and dull lower back pain. The pain around my left ovary comes and goes..sometimes it is sharp and sometimes dull. Monday morning I woke up and could barely move my left arm because of pain in my shoulder. This pain was very bad and went on for two days without relief. Now, it comes and goes but is not as bad. I have also been sick to my stomach all week and just felt weak and fatigued.

I have an appt with the gyn next week. I dont know if this sounds more like a cyst, the endo, or ectopic pregnancy.

Does the shoulder pain with the ectopic come and go, or is it constant?

Thank you for your help!

Hi!
There is an easy way to rule out ectopic pregnancy--if a pregnancy test is negative it is not an ectopic pregnancy! Ovarian cysts certainly can behave in a fashion similar to what you describe--if you do have another cyst, you may want to discuss wiht your doctor taking some medication to suppress cysts--birth control pills work well.  If it is recurrent endometriosis, the same would apply.
One other thing to consider is whether there is something going on with your spine--a slipped or bulging disc can cause radicular pain to the arms or legs. Also, be sure your bowels are in good shape--left sided pain is often due to the colon.  I'm glad you will be seeing your MD soon.  In the meantime, you may want to try something over the counter such as Motrin or Aleve if you are not allergic to them.
Good luck!

Dear Mami, I am really sorry to hear that you have been suffering quite a lot since the last few weeks. According to the information that you have provided, let me tell you that pain in the shoulder due to an ectopic pregnancy would be a referred pain and would only occur if the ectopic pregnancy would have burst out in the abdomen which definitely would present as an emergency. The patient would have severe abdominal pain in that case that would force an immediate hospitalization. I suggest you undergo proper tests to exclude the presence of any infection in your ovaries that could also cause similar symptoms. Get well soon!
