A weird period

I am on the seasonale pill.....i have just started my third month of it (im in the middle of week 9) and i started having a period 2 weeks ago and it is still going on.  It is not very heavy, but my normal periods have never lasted over 4 days.  I thought maybe it would just be longer becasue it is so light, but my concern is the pain i am feeling.  I am having really bad cramps everyday, but also inside my body kind of right above my pubic hair line i am having this sharp burning pain.  I have never felt pain like this before form having a period or anything else.  Usually with my period i have cramps for one or two days but they are always normal cramps.  This time i have had cramps everyday and this other pain everyday as well.  I went to the doctor yesterday and she didnt help me at all.  I have had a pregnancy test and im not pregnant and i do not have a yeast infection! I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this or knows anything about it! If you are going to say "go see your doctor" dont....i already did and she didnt help!  should i stop taking my birth control pills and start them back after the period stops?HELP ME PLEASE!

Hello,

Your bleeding is likely a result of "breakthrough bleeding".  This refers to the bleeding that occurs when a woman is using the pill in a continuous fashion (this can be achieved with seasonale or any pill) and they have untimed bleeding.  This varies from person to person and typically happens during the 3rd or 4th cycle into the process.  It is definitely okay to stop the pill and restart it once the bleeding has stopped, but remember to use back up contraception (i.e., condoms) to avoid an undesired pregnancy until you are 7days into a new pill pack.

I don't know if or how any of this is related to the pain you are having.  For that reason you might want to seek a 2nd opinion.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

Hey, I'm not the expert doc on this forum, but do feel for you. Unfortunately , that is exactly what the doc will tell you to do,  Go see your doctor. And so would I. I am a female, and what you're describing sounds like it's not normal. And it  might very well be related to your bc pills, but who knows. My only advice is, you need to see a Different Doctor. Is the one you saw a Gynecologist? Or just a GP, or internist? You probably need to make sure you see an OB/GYN, and if that is who you saw, then call them back and make them see you again, or get a second opinion if your current doc is not taking you seriously. Didn't she do any tests on you? I am assuming she did a pelvic exam? It sounds like even an ultrasound might help in finding out what is going on with you. But as I say, I"m not a doctor, and so therefore am not qualified to tell you anything but what I would do if it were me. I'd go back to the doctor and don't stop until you find one that either does figure out what's causing this, or gives you an explanation you can live with and performs the necessary tests on you to make sure you're okay.  Take care and I hope it all works out.
