HPV (wart virus)

Hello,
8 months ago i had some bleeding during intercourse- i told my dr and she referred me to have a smear test-the results came back as mild changes-i was referred to a colposcopy clinic which there they took biopsies etc. The result of this showed that i actually have HPV (wart virus). I had a close look in the mirror at my vagina and inside i could see a small colletcion of small red bumps that are a little bit painful especially during sex.  So now i am going to book an appointment with my GP to see what can be done about this!! Me thinks an old exboyfriend gave me this, possibly- 5 years ago as he had a wart on his penis- when he had this- i got my self checked out in a sexual health clinic- evidently i had not caught anything- but i found out that it can be weeks, months or even years till they actually show up.  I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years now and he has no signd of warts on him... just wanna find out now what they can do to remove them. Oh and since ive had the colposcopy- i have bled every single day (its been about 2 months) but i also stopped my contraceptive pill about 3 months ago- could this be a combination of stopping the pill and the colposcopy procedure resulting in the bleeding? i had been on the pill for about 9 years.

Help me please!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI!
There are several treatments for genital warts--Podophyllin and trichloroacetic acid are commonly used in the office.  Laser, cautery or cryotherapy can also be used.  The one that I like the best is Aldara--this is a product that the patient can use at home.  It tends to be much more convenient and much less painful than the others.  Your current partner may never show any signs, although he has almost certainly been exposed.
If you were my patient, I would do some investigation into the source of the bleeding.
The biopsies should heal within 3-4 days.  Usually bleeding caused by changing hormonal medications shouldn't last more than 1-2 weeks.
If you were my patient, my next step would be an ultrasound.  I would want to figure out what is going on with the lining of your uterus.  I suspect that you have a polyp or hyperplasia  or something going on inside the uterus--which was probably what caused the initial postcoital bleeding.
Hope this helps!
