sterilization and periods

ttz
Hi
I stopped using oral contreceptives few days before my sterilization which was 25th May 2011 my first period after sterilization was 15 June and it was the normal bleeding that lasted about 5 days.
The next period was 11 July until 23 July (2 weeks) but it wasnt normal..very light flow and not red but dark pinkish. now again i have a period 1st August and today is 8th August and its still going strong! heavy flow and doesnt seem like its getting less/ or stopping anytime soon! I just need to know if this is normal or should i be worried about something else??

Any help or advise on this will be appreciated!

Hi!
It is fairly common for women to have irregular periods for awhile after a tubal ligation.
If you were my patient, I would advise you that we could wait for awhile to see if your periods will settle into a regular pattern.  I ALWAYS advise a pregnancy test whenever there is irregular bleeding (even after a tubal) although I think that the likelihood of that being the problem is very low.  It might be that a short course of progesterone would be
enough to get your bleeding to stop and regulate. If it persists abnormally for more cycles. I would then start a work up with some blood testing for hormone imbalance.
Hope this helps!
