missed miscarriage

Hello,

I was recently 8 weeks pregnant and went for my first U/S and appt. The ultrasound showed no heartbeat. I attempted the med cytotec and unfortunately i did not expel everything so i needed a D&C. Can d&cs ruin your chances for carrying a pregnancy or allowing you to get pregnant again? They did mention a chance for scar tissue, is that common? D&cs are common and safe?

Thank you for any help

Hello,

D&C's are common and safe.  Scarring after a D&C would be a rare side effect.  When this does occur it is usually when a D&C is performed after a late loss (14-24 weeks) and in the setting of an infection.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
