I have a similar situation..For the last two weeks I have been having stomach cramping, sore back and boobs, nausea, and extremely tired. I have a very regular period always lasting 5 days but my last one only lasted two and was abnormially heavy. I am not on any birth control nor have I been for over a year. I went to the doctor and did not recieve much help but a pregnancy test which was negative, as I suspected. I do have another doctor appointment in two days ....Thank-you for any help

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would want to see you in the office for a complete exam and ultrasound. The first thing I would want to rule out is any kind of obstruction or blockage that might be keeping the blood from flowing out.  If there was no problem like that, I would do an ultrasound to check o the lining of the uterus.  Sometimes when women don't ovulate regularly, they don't produce enough progesterone.  Progesterone is necessary to "clean out" the uterus.  If the lining looked thickened on ultrasound, I would prescribe Progesterone .
If the lining looked NORMAL on ultrasound, I would probably recommend a laparoscopy. That is a minor surgery in which a small "TV camera" is inserted through a small incision just below the belly button.  This is the best technique for diagnosing endometriosis.
Two final, very imporant tests, would be a pregnancy test and tests to rule out infection of the uterus.
I hope this is helpful!
Good luck!
