Early sign HIV or STD

For the 1st time in my life I had unprotected sex with someone 3-4 days ago. I feel so stupid for allowing it. I got worried and stopped after 10 min at the max. I don't know the woman, don't know her situation. Anyways I woke up 10 hours later and felt slight body pain, like the flu and it went away after a nap. but I've
Been extremely anxious now and scared to death. had nasaue the next day and diarrhea. Its since went away, but can hear my stomach rumbling.  Now I can't sleep I'm
So anxious. Would these be symptoms so fast? I'd hate to be so unlucky after 1 stupid mistake that people make often. I've also been under extreme stress w/a separation for 6 months and I've had
Many of these symptoms with my stress, but this sure isn't helping. I'm so angry at myself for doing it and being unprotected. btw I'm 35 and in good health besides too much stress.  I'm assuming I should get tested. should I wait a few weeks or go immediately?

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll try to help. the risk of a single exposure of the sort you describe is very, very low for a number of reasons:

1.  It is unlikely that this person had HIV unless you have reason for believe otherwise.  Among heterosexual women in the U.S. who do not use IV drugs, fewer than 1 in 10,000 have HIV.
2.  Even if she did (which as I said, is unlikely) the risk of HIV from a single act of intercourse if less than 1 infection for every 1000 acts of intercourse.

Putting these two facts together, I suspect your mathematical risk of HIV from this encounter is less than 1 in 100,000 and probably lower.  Obviously, if you knew more you could be surer.

Further, I can promise you that the symptoms you experienced 10 hours after your exposure were not due to HIV or, for that matter, any other STD. There are no STDs, including HIV which cause symptoms within 10 hours of exposure.  HIV takes more than 2 weeks, on average to cause the so-called ARS symptoms of early HIV.  Other STDs may take 2-3 days but NEVER less than 24 hours.

What to do?  Work on getting over your guilt. This can be done in part by getting tested to make sure you did not get other, relatively common STDs such as gonorrhea or chlamydia. these tests can be done at this time and will be reliable. As for HIV, I suggest you get an HIV blood test at 8 weeks.  when you do, I anticipate that it will be negative and would advise you to take that as PROOF that you did not get HIV from the encounter you describe.  EWH
