This is an unrelated question to hich I'll provide a single answer. We would not have recommended blood tests for HSV in your situation. What you have learned is that you have antibodies to HSV-1, the virus that causes cold sores. Over 60% of adults have HSV-1 infection. While the virus causes most cold sores, only a small proportion of persons who have HSV-1 get cold sores and most peole do not know they have the infection. It is not something to worry about.

Hi Dr. Edward,
Result has came out today. HIV 1 and 2 is negative. Chlamydia negative. Positive for hsv1 and negative for hsv2. Y do I get positive with hsv1?
Glad to help. Take care. It is time for you to move forward and no longer let this exposure worry you. EWH
Hi, Dr. Edward. My apology for misunderstanding. Reading the comments here is really pressured me up. My job now is just to wait for the result on next Monday. Frankly speaking, I feel much better right now and really thanks for the help, doctor. I will update my result again once I receive the call from my local lab here. Thanks again, doctor.
You appear to have misread my comment. I did not suggest that your test would be postive. I said, "It is now nearly 8 weeks since your encounter -if you had gotten HIV your test would be positive at this time." Notice the work IF. In other words, the answer will be reliable and should be believed. EWH
To add up, I had this encounter in Malaysia. And she's only 18.
Thanks Dr. Edward for your precious comment here. I just took the HIV and STDs test today and still have to wait till next Monday for the result. No any swollen gland visible. Nor any rash on my skin. But why wOuld you say that I will get positive test if I take the test at this time?
Welcome to the Forum. Your risk is that you had unprotected genital intercourse with a commercial sex worker. While the chances that she had HIV are low and the chance of getting HIV if she had it are only 1 in 1,000 sex acts, there is a small risk of HIV form the encounter you describe. There is a larger risk of other STDs which can be asymptomatic and are far more common among CSWs in the Philippines.
Further, it is unlikely that your flu-like illness was HIV particularly since there were others with similar illnesses at about the same time. Despite that, just to be sure, my advice would be to get checked. It is now nearly 8 weeks since your encounter -if you had gotten HIV your test would be positive at this time. I anticipate that your test will be negative and encourage you to get tested so that you can put any concerns you have aside.
I hope my comments and suggestion help. EWH
