This is a repeat question using different words; your original question stated the type of test and I already assured you that "you can be 100% sure you didn't catch HIV during your June 20 events". I haven't changed my mind. A negative oral fluids test is 100% reliable at 40 days. You're going to have to look to origins for your symptoms other than HIV. They don't sound alarming or even particularly abnormal, but continue to work with your doctor if you remain concerned.
That will be all for this thread. I can't help further.
Doc,
I wanted to let you know that I had a check-up. The CBC was found normal along with normal thyroid test. I still have light sweating daily and the rare occasion of a night sweat. I generally feel hot when I go to bed and had been experiencing this for months. Lymph nodes were normal and not swollen. I still have a lump under my tongue, but was told it was nothing to worry about. I have been trying to gain the weight back but been having trouble. I just wanted to double check that the oralquick (swab of inside my mouth) on 40 days after my last possible exposure was accurate enough to conclude that I am HIV negative.
Thank you in advance.
Yes, of course 100% -- sorry for the typo and any confusion (or alarm!).
Like many anxious people, you are of two minds about this: intellectually ("left brain"?) you understand you don't have HIV and yet emotionally ("right brain"?) you remain obsessed with concern about it. If that obsession continues, counseling may be in order -- which, as always, I suggest from compassion, not criticism. Good luck with it.
Thank you Dr. I am sure you meant 100% reliable on the tests. I have been obsessed with this. I am scheduled for physical at the end of the month to find out what is going on with me. I didnt think that I had HIV as I did a thorough review of it. But my physical symptoms were starting to get the best of me. Plus, my symprtoms really didnt start until September with the exception of the sore throat and I understand ARS is 2-4 weeks after exposure and is like a severe flu event. I didnt have this at all. Plus, I havent had any fever.
On this board, it sounds like anxiety masks as HIV. I have definetly learned from this and not to engage sex with someone that I dont know.
Welcome to the HIV forum.
The tests for HIV routinely used in industrialized countries are 10% reliable, as long as they are done more than 6 weeks after the last possible exposure. On the other hand, the symptoms of HIV are highly variable, and they are unreliable in diagnosing HIV/AIDS. Therefore, in the medical evaluation of a person concerned about HIV, the test results always outweigh symptoms. Your test results prove that your symptoms are not due to HIV.
The biggest clue to the real cause is the last comment in your question. Whenever a persons suspects his or her own symptoms have a psychological origin, usually s/he is correct.
The main thing is that you can be 100% sure you didn't catch HIV during your June 20 events.
