Thank you very much for your honesty and I will seek therapy for ocd as I think this stemming from that. I had seen a post where Dr. Hook had written to someone that a 5.5 week test and then one just short of 8 weeks was proof of there being no hiv infection. I think the best thing for me is to stop testing, I think that might be fueling the fire. When you said highly reliable am I abler to assume that I do not need to test? I understand your suggestions were out of comapssion and I know after reading your threads that you truly mean that, so thank you. This will be the last you hear from me as I am realizing that I need not be concerned with this and I need to enjoy life.
Only the sexual affair carried any potential risk for HIV, and from what you say it seems exceedingly unlikely that your partner had HIV. And negative HIV antibody tests at 6 and 7+ weeks are highly reliable, proving you weren't infected.
You clearly are obsessed with HIV. If it could be transmitted as easily as you imagine, it would be 100 times more common than it is and would not be classified as a sexually transmitted or blood-borne infection. Please educate yourself about it. If your anxieties persist, you might consider seeking professional counseling about. Your thinking about this really is not normal or entirely rational. I suggest it out of compassion, not criticism.
That will have to be all for this thread.
Dr.Hansfield,
My husband has urged me to tell you my three concerns with hiv in hopes that you can calm my fears and I can move one. I have been struggling with these for a month and I hope you can put them to rest.
First was the wisdom tooth issue which you answered and after hearing you explain it I feel confident in the fact that there is no issue.
Here are the other 2 issues.
1. I had an affair, short lived, where I was with an heterosexual man three times. I know he is heterosexual for sure. It was three vaginal exposures. I tested 6 weeks from last encounter and then again at seven weeks and 5 days. Both were negative. After reading MANY posts on this site I became convinced that I was fione and that I could move on without testing again. I would just like your opinion so i can let this go.
2. A month ago I had what was supposed to be a simple knee surgery. They ended up using demineralized bone material on me. This bone product is cleaned with ethanol and they tell emhas never been an issue. I did search bone graft on here and found a post aboust dental bone graft where you said it was safe, so am I to assume that there is no issue with mine?
I just want to mover on from these three issues and know for sure that i don not need to test ever again, thank you so much.
Thanks Dr. Hansfield! I feel much better and I can move on. The infection I got through me as it is rare, so my mind started racing. As I start to see it rationally it makes sense, otherwise oral surgeons would be telling us not to eat out at all. So I will continue with my trips to Starbucks without concern:)
Welcome to the HIV forum. You had accurate responses on the community forum. It is probable that nobody in the world has ever caught HIV by eating contaminated food, regardless of sores in the mouth, recent tooth extraction, etc. You aren't going to be the first in history. How quickly your extraction sites heal is not relevant; there is no risk. And I can't imagine HIV infected blood getting on food anyway. You definitely should put this out of your mind. You do not need testing.
