Molluscum and HIV

Hi doc-

I'm back. And if you go through my posts I'll admit I have an unrational fear of stds. And truthfully the poster below with molluscum scared me

that being said, I was recently diagnosed with molluscum on my face. It started on my lips and spread to my cheek. It has also showed up in my girlfriends face as well

how unsual is this? After being diagnosed I immediately took a rapid test and it was negative. Molluscum is only a sign of advanced HIV/ aids right?

I'm sorry, I cannot say how common it is for adults to have molluscum on the face.  it is not unusual but I cannot provide a precise figure. EWH

Welcome to our Forum.  I have reviewed some of your prior interactions on various MedHelp sites.  I understand that you are quite concerned about HIV and other STDs.  Thus, it my please to tell you that the vast majority of persons who get molluscum do not have HIV and that it is only persons with advanced HIV who have major problems with MC.  My advice is to have faith in your tests and to believe the negative HIV test result you have just had.

Noting that you mention that your molluscum causes me to ask if you have been shaving over area where your molluscum has appeared. The reason I ask is that shaving over molluscum infected areas is notorious for spreading them.

I hope my comment is helpful. EWH
