Very confused

Doctor i had protected oral and vaginal sex with an escort on April 15th.I got tested for hiv and other stds on May 23 rd 5 weeks after exposure. Everything came back negative. At 7 weeks i had a blood test for insurance purposes and the hiv test came back negative on that. At 12 weeks i got an orasure test done which was also negative. At 13 weeks went back for a blood test where the Elisa came back positve. The Western Blot result was intermediate. This result i got yesteday the 22nd of Juy. The conselor said that it showed a + and -  of the p24 antigen. I did not show any other protiens.

I had sex with my wife after the 7 week result where we did not use condoms during foreplay but used them while having vaginal sex. She has been sick for the past 3 weeks and has taken multiple doses of antibiotics but her infection has not gone. The doctor says she has a full blown Urinary tract infection. I am very concerned that i may have passed on the HIV virus to her after this new result? Could you please guide me on what to do next?

Also my daughter and son both had fifth's disese in the last 2 weeks? Is there any connection if i could have got infected with that virus and get a positive result on the Elisa? Please reply as soon as possible.

Thank you

I got the results on HIV 1and 2. Both Negative.

DNA PCR- NEGATIVE.

The only result i did not get was the RNA but at this point it does not matter.

Thanks to all you folks who prayed for me.

Get a life, everyone. Stop speculating and stop assuming romeet has HIV.  See my initial response:  "The vast majority of indeterminant HIV WB results resolve as negative; and you had low risk exposure by any definition. Therefore, the odds are strong you don't have HIV."

I'm going to start deleting responses if this silly discussion continues.

Wow, this is really scaring me considering I got a 7 week negative through my doctor's office and just recently a 12 week negative through Home Access.

I don't know but at this point he should be taking just antibody tests and not viral load.

If it was truly "protected" he never would have. The condom may have busted and he didn't know it. I think he will come by tomorrow or the beginning of next week with a negative.

do you really think he would have seroconverted after 12 weeks of protected sex?

Something else that I thought Dr. H would have mentioned. You had a negative test at 12 weeks. Even if you told us the condom busted, and you came to this forum without mentioning the 13 week positive, you would have been declared negative with the 12 week test. This makes it more likely to me that the 13 week test is a false positive.

Please let us know the results.

I went back yesterday and got retested for HIV-1, HIV-2, DNA by PCR and RNA.

I am awaiting the results.

Spoke to the counseler and he said that i was negative on the HIV-2 and according to him all my other tests will come back negative.

Still worried and awaiting the results.

if everything you write is legit there is no way you can have HIV.  You'd be breaking new ground out of the millions and millions of people who test.  Im sorry, your not going to break new ground.  Retest.  UTI's have nothing to do with HIV from anything I've read.

Sorry to hear about your delima, please keep us posted as to what transpires. I would bet the farm you are a false negative.

Good luck..

You need to follow through with the clinic where you were tested, and rely on their advice.  Almost certainly you do not have HIV.  The UTI in your wife does not even remotely suggest HIV or any thing else mysterous.  UTI in women is a natural consequence of sex.  The name "honeymoon cystitis" (cystitis means bladder infection_ goes back more than 100 years, to indicate the association of sex with UTI.

I am unaware of any association of indeterminant or irregular HIV test results as a result of fifth disease.  Not saying it can't happen, but I doubt it.

The vast majority of indeterminant HIV WB results resolve as negative; and you had low risk exposure by any definition.  Therefore, the odds are strong you don't have HIV.  But you need to follow up with your own provider for definitive answers and advice.

Good luck--- HHH, MD

I'm not the doctor but I have been reading about HIV enough now that I know that your Elisa test must be confirmed by another test. An indeterminate WB is not a confirmation as I understand it. Sounds like you need to take a second set of tests but let's wait and see what the doc says.

Best of luck to you.

You can't get HIV from protected oral or protected vaginal sex. So I think he will tell you that you got a false positive/false indeterminate and the next tests you take will be negative.

The only other unlikely options are
1) You had a REAL exposure around your 6 week test time that
   you are not mentioning.
2) You have a type of HIV that was not picked up on your
   other ELISA's.

I vote negative because I don't think you would have taken another chance while you were already paying for lots of tests, and the other groups of HIV that are not consistently picked up by all the licensed ELISA are very rare (assuming you are in the U.S.).
