HIV Risk assesment

Dear Dr,

I am a 28 year old male and had two occasions of protected sex (vaginal /oral both protected) with a student Japanese CSW (Escort) in UK around 6 weeks ago and as far as I remember the condoms were intact in both occasions unless they had tiny pours or cuts. I freaked out and got tested for STDs including HIV in a GUM clinic a week after. All came back negative. I developed a really mild sore throat at the start of week three followed by a neck spasm/pain that was with me for almost two weeks but I had no other symptoms and no fever. I went to my GP and she did not notice anything and said it might be a minor viral case. Due to anxiety, 28 days after first exposure (that is 25 after second exposure), I had a duo HIV test in private clinic in London that came back negative.  Now, it is 38 days after the first exposure and I have a scratchy throat again. This time is more obvious but still not sever with occasional coughs and really mild runny nose.

1- Do you think any of these symptoms can be ARS related?
2- How accurate would be a 4th generation duo test 25 days post exposure?
3- Do you you recommend another test now or at 12 weeks?
5- What is my risk factor based on the mentioned history?

Many thanks

Good Morning,

1- Do you think any of these symptoms can be ARS related?

No - never, ever. You had protected sex and you have irrelevant inconsequential "symptoms". You are not and cannot be HIV positive.

2- How accurate would be a 4th generation duo test 25 days post exposure?

In your specific case, 100% certain.

3- Do you you recommend another test now or at 12 weeks?

No - you were never exposed, do not have symptoms and have had a negative DUO - your reaction to your innocent actions is way over the top.

5- What is my risk factor based on the mentioned history?

None whatever - none at all - impossible.

best wishes, Sean

Dear Dr Sean,

Thanks a lot for your advice. Your reassurance means a lot to me. Unfortunately, there are lost of info on the Web about Ars symptoms and HIV and even though I was advised that reading them all is not helpful, I already opened the Pandora's Box and cased lots of anxiety and pressure on myself.

So I have the last two questions and I do my best to stop it right there and move on with my life:

1- I developed a single mouth ulcer on my lower lip (inside the mouth). Does it change your risk assessment? Is it possible that it has been caused by my current cold-like symptoms?

2- In the previous case of mild sore throat, I did not develop a runny nose and in the current case it was unnoticeable as well. Can it be source of concern regarding STDs including HIV?

Thanks again for your helpful forum and feedbacks
