Simple Question Searched Your Forumn: Conflicting Answers

Doctor

On Feb 26th I had a low risk exposure which I was given PEP for.  (28 days worth)
I freaked out and was tested many many times via rapid antibody tests.  I also had a duo at 8 weeks post exposure.  It was negative.

The most recent test was today.  Rapid finger stick, the result was negative.  This was 116 days post exposure.  My question is simple.

I see you respond to some people stating an antibody or duo test must be done 4 months after the risk & three months post PEP.

Other times I see you state you must test four months after taking your last PEP pill.

Which advice is correct?

Thanks!!!!

Thanks for answering my question. I had my final rapid hiv antibody test (statpak fingerstick) last week. It was 125 days post exposure. (3months after pep and 4 months after the exposure) Guess what the results were negative!!! I can finally move on. I wish you all the best.  You helped me get through a very tough situation.  I appreciate it.

Hi Keith

Sorry to be confusing - the time frame is 4 months post exposure = 3 months after completion of PEP. I hope that helps clarify things, best wishes, Sean

Here is the response I sometimes see you give;

YOU ASK A FURTHER QUESTION RELATING TO TESTING AND AGAIN THE ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED IS WRONG. THE CURRENT ADVICE IS THAT PEOPLE RECEIVING PEP SHOULD TEST AT 3 MONTHS AFTER FINISHING THE COURSE - SO THREE MONTHS AFTER THE LAST TABLET AND 4 MONTHS AFTER THE EPISODE ITSELF.

Best wishes, Sean

The specific post I am reffering to that you responded "test 4 months after exposure and three months after completing PEP" was titled;

"HIV Risk"
