Negative test after 35 days, need for re-testing?

Dear doctor,

I am writing to you from Finland, I'm 28 years old female and I  had a love affair wich lasted for two months. During that time we had unprotected sex several times, and I think we both thought we would stay together forever. This man told me that he didn't have hiv and that he was tested by the company's health care doctor, like they do every three years here. After we broke up, I still started to worry about the unprotected sex we had, and went to get tested. I was tested 35 days after our latest entercourse, I had the duo-test(antibody-antigen) which was negative. Do I need re-testing, or can I just forget about the whole thing and stop worrying?
Thank you so much for your answer!

please dont get people paronoid, the woman needs the right facts so pl let the Dr opinion be prominent. Let me tell u the 3 month mark for standard antibody test is the gold standard, but the modern ab tests are very sensitive and specific and can detect in 6 to 8 weeks, in short if a person tests 6 weeks neg then its almost never for the person to change to positive thereafter... Yes for reassurance u can do a teast at 12 weeks, but there will be no change for sure.
Reg antigine antibody test. 28 days to 5 weeks its conclusive, take it or leave it. Its approved in uk, in massachusettes a 6 weeks antibody test is conclusive. So pl get the facts right and dont confuse people and the Dr is the expert and has experience in the specific field. Regards bye.

Hello,
As mentioned by another contributor replying to your post, your negative HIV Duo test performed at 35 days is totally conclusive. There is no need for you to worry about HIV and no need to have any further tests at all.  You are definitely HIV negative.  However you should consider having a full STD screening, other than HIV, as there are other conditions that are much more common and more easily to transmit, and would not always give you any symptoms.
Best wishes,
Dr Jose

Thank you mattx and all of you who have made your comments! Still waiting to hear the doctor's response, but it was comforting to read about conclusive result after 28 days:). At time I had this relationship, I really didn't even thought about possible risk, and propably there wasn't any either...I have known this man for few years, and I know he really had feelings for me too, so cannot think he would have put me in to risk by purpous...We both have kids and unfortunately things got too complicated for us, though we even discussed marriage etc. So you all can imagine that I really wasn't concerned about any infections at the time:). But now that time has passed, and this relationship didn't work out, I have started to think about these things. I know the fear of these things is most certainly only in my mind, and there's no need to really worry, but when you start thinking something like this, it is hard to stop it... Hope the best for all of you!

Hi Aya
A Duo test is considered conclusive after 28 days and once the actual doctor responds here im sure he will confirm this for you. To the other users, in this particular forum the doctors here have extensive knowledge on the latest testing methods and the information you posted contradict this, please allow the Dr to respond accordingly and read through the other posts  which may shed some light on the Duo test, they are experts in thier fields.

You had a risk and yes you should be tested and nowadays after an 8 week test it should be very conclusive Your results shouldn't change and it would be very odd and Rare if your test changed at 12 weeks. Next time think before you do.

Hi Aya,
I am not a doctor .. but what i feel is that you are safe since 90% of people infected will get symptoms .. and in you r caseits just your worry ... but still pleae get tested in 3 months after latest exposure and if possible after 6 months as well ..
no need to worry still you are scientifically proved that you are infected .. and in your case .. you are not infected is what i feel :) enjoy your days ..
