Possible HIV or STDs infections?

Dear Dr.,

On Saturday (April 24th, 2010) I decided to go see a woman (Korean) who provides GFE (Girlfriend Experience). Basically a prostitute. I received un-protected blowjob, a few seconds rimming, and protected vaginal intercourse. I have a cut with blood coming out on my upper lip and only lick and sucked on her clitoris for about less than a minute while we did the 69 position (I'm on the bottom). At that time I did not noticed any vaginal fluid coming out yet. The only thing I did a lot with my mouth was licking and sucking her nipples. As for my hands and fingers I did used it to masturbate her and there was a lot of vaginal fluid coming out (I did not insert my fingers inside her). I also noticed that I have tiny cut(s) under my fingernails.

When everything is done, several hours later I feel very fatique, sleepy, light fever, headache, and sour throat. Today is Tuesday (April 27th, 2010) when I woke up my mouth taste felt very bitter and when I take a look at my tongue and it was all white covering stuffs and my sour throat seems a little bit more worse. Right now I still feel fatique, a little bit of a fever, headache, and sour throat. I'm very scare that I might contracted HIV or some kind of nasty STDs so yesterday I went and take the "8 Test Panel + HIV DNA test". I won't be having the results until the next several days and right now I'm so scare. The most thing I'm scare of is HIV. I also did some light kissing with her, which was only lips to lips for about a second each, and no deep french kissing (no open mouth or tongue involved). I am scare that I might catch Herpes or HIV and I just pray to God that it won't be HIV.

Thank you and please help me.

Hello

You are not at risk of HIV from this epsiode. You've had a relatively innocent exposure with a sex worker but you have not been exposed to HIV through it.

The test you did, in terms of HIV diagnosis was of no use at all I'm afraid as it was far too early. A minimim interval of 7 days is needed before an RNA PCR test is reliable.

If you remain concerned then please get yourself either an RNA PCR at 7 plus days or a 4th generation HIV 1 and 2 antibody /p24 antigen test at 28 days post event.

I am confident though that you are not HIV positive.

best regards, Sean

Hello doctor,

I just took a "8 Test Panel" on 05/26/2010 and here are the results:

HIV-1 Antibody, Confirmation Western Blot:
Value: <1.00
Result: Negative

HIV 1/O/2 Abs, Qual HIV 1/O/2 Abs, Qual:
Value: Non Reactive
Result: Negative

HIV-1 DNA by PCR With HIV Antibodies by ICMA:
Value: NGVP
Result: Negative

Is this test conclusive? Should I move on with my life and know that I am 100% negative? Should I need to test again? Please let me know doctor. Thank you very much for your time.

Thank you very much for helping me during this mental crisis time of mine. I contacted the test center and here are what they said:

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

The "-" in the range section of your results indicates that the range is identical to the value. This mark is usually found on negative results, where no # value is necessary. The same is true for NGVP (Negative Virus Proviral), this is also a negative result."

Since the tests I took was too early. I will get another tests just to be 100% sure but what date you suggest I should take the tests? May 22nd or May 29th?

Once again thank you Dr. Sean Cummings.

You appear to be HIV negative although I don't understand this:-

HIV 1/O/2 Abs, Qual HIV 1/O/2 Abs, Qual:

Value: Repeatedly Reactive
Range: Non Reactive
Result: -

It seems to be negative - but I don't think you have accurately given the result.

Most of the popuplation - greater than 70% is positive for herpes 1 so this is a complete irrelevance. I am Herpes 1 positive and like most people have been since childhood.

You need to go and talk with a doctor to understand your results. I belive as I have said before that 1) you were not exposed 2) you are HIV negative.

No more on this from me.

best regards, Sean

Dr. Sean, where are you?

Today is Saturday (May 1st, 2010). Feeling very sick, probably another fever + exploding headache. The past 2 days I am having a lot of gas inside my stomach and hungry a lot. Also went to the bathroom a lot and the feces seems to be intact. I am hoping these are the symptoms due to the Herpes type 1 virus, instead of HIV.
