HIV risk from small bleeding cut at base of penis "Extremely Worried - Please Help!"

Hi,

I am married for 2 years. 11 weeks ago me and my wife had sex. before that I shaved my penis and got a small cut and there was bleeding. But I was very excited and I ignored that and had sex with my wife. we didn't use condom also. After 2-3 days of that incident I had fever. and after 1 week I had headache all day of that week continuously. I also got cold 3-4 times in these 11 weeks. I felt body aches, swollen lymph nodes throughout body, lack of appetite. I had Sore throat and pain for 1 week. I decided to visit urology specialist and explain every thing then he said HIV spread only when one partner is HIV positive and he said there is no symptoms of HIV till 10 years after get infected with HIV. But this is first time in my life I felt these problems. After 65 days (9 weeks) decided to go for HIV test and result is HIV negative. So Do I need to do worry because Its almost 3 months to that incident still I am feeling muscle ache in my hands, near to shoulder and neck and some times in legs.
I am very much worried about this and wanted to know if these symptoms could be indicative of HIV infection. And is HIV infection possible when both partners are HIV negative.
And other than HIV risk what all Sexually transmitted disease are possible.
Thank you very much for your help!

You apparently have not understood my comments above.  They contain the answers to these additional questions.  But here we go again:

"I want to know if my fears are justified."  No, they are not.

"I want to know if I've really got something to worry about here."  No, you do not.  I explained the reasons above.

"Could all of this be caused by stress?  I have tried to convince myself this has all just been stress induced."  Most of this indeed is stress.  For sure it isn't HIV or any other STD.

"Please suggest if I need to wait till 3 months and go for test again or are these test’s enough to confirm the negative results."  You did not need HIV testing at all.  You certainly do not need any more HIV tests.

That will end this thread.  Best wishes.

Dear Doctor,

Thanks for advice.
I read these symptoms somewhere for HIV as well, thus I so concerned.
I want to know if my fears are justified. I want to know if I've really got something to worry about here.
Could all of this be caused by stress?  I have tried to convince myself this has all just been stress induced.
Please suggest if I need to wait till 3 months and go for test again or are these test’s enough to confirm the negative results.

Welcome to the forum.

There is no risk of any kind from having sex with your wife while you have a bleeding cut or sore.  Your fever and other symptoms have nothing to do with that event.  Of course this assumes your wife does not have HIV or other STDs.  These infections do not appear out of thin air:  you catch them only by having sex with someone who is already infected.

Also, your HIV test proves you symptoms are not due to HIV.  There are no exceptions:  if you had HIV any more than 4-6 weeks, your test would have been positive.  There are at least a hundred other health problems -- mostly mild -- that cause symptoms like yours. Continue to work with your doctor if your symptoms continue or you remain concerned.  But there is absolutely no reason for you to be worried about HIV or other STDs.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
