risk assesment

O.k I will try to just get to the main points. About 2 1/2 months ago I unfortunatly had unprotected sex with an escort. She was an independant escort and was not the highest priced. She was a white female around 24 years old. After the first month I have been diagnosed by my doctor that I have genital warts (hpv) they are still around and he treats them weekly by freezing. I have been geting random aches and pains over my body since about the same time I started getting the warts. I also tried a home remedy on the warts which was apple cider vinegar, which ended uo burning other parts of the shaft of my penis where there were not even warts. what ended up happening is my penis started scabing where there were no warts and my groin lymphnodes beame painfull and swollen, big time on my right side. my docter asessed them and said they were swollen because of the damage done by the vinegar creating scabs on my penis. I got scared and went to the std clinic exactly 8 weeks after the exposure and had a hiv test. The test came back negative. I am wondering if the 8 week test is suficient or do I need to continue testing? would the new hpv infection make hiv antibodies take longer to produce? do thoe other symptoms sound like they could be brought on by the hpv?

Welcome to the Forum.  Sometimes our efforts to help ourselves wind up doing more harm than good.  there may be an element of this going on for you.  Let's work through your questions:

1.  Is your 8 week test reliable.  Yes.  Your risk for HIV was very low even before you tested and in your situation, your 8 week results effectively prove that you did not get HIV.  I say this because, even before you got tested your risk of HIV was AT MOST (and this is a very  conservative estimate 1 in10,000 on a statistical basis (far less than 10% of CSWs have HIV and the risk if your partner was infected is less than 1 infection per 1000 unprotected sex acts).  In my opinion, you really do not need further testing.
2.   Would the HPV infection delay production of HIV antibodies.  No!!!
3.  Swollen lymph nodes.  these are non-specific findings and should not worry you.  I suspect the reason for your swollen nodes relates to the irritation which occurred because of the chemical burns the vinegar caused on your penis.
4.  Origin of your other symptoms. these are again non-specific.  One possible cause is the irritation and healing related to your vinegar injury.

I hope my comments are helpful to you.  At this time you can move forward from your unprotected exposure to the CSW with confidence that you did not get HIV.,  I would urge you to use condoms for such encounters in the future.  Take care.  EWH

Fianl opinion.  You do not have HIV.  The other problems are likely a mixture of coincidence and bad luck.  HIV is not a concern. Your tests prove this

O.k Mr Hook, I have one more post for you. I have waited awhile to sum up all the symptoms. They include the genital warts, epidimytis, urethritis, half way through the antibiotics for this I got a pink eye infection and got drops for it and have now developed a small sore in my very far inside cheek. The antibiotcs seem to have worked well for the epidymits and urethritis and pink eye. The thing that bothers me is the fact all this has happened to me just over 2 months after this encounter, and I am a fairly healthy man. This will be my last post for you and am looking forward to your final opinion. I thank you very much for your help and apreciate your service. Also at 10 weeks I got another hiv test done and it was negative.

If you have questions, please ask them at once, don't keep adding little bits of information.  It does not provide a full picture of what is going on and therefore results in you getting only partial information.

It sounds as though you have urethritis (penile infection).  I suspect the shot you received was ceftriaxone and when given with doxycycline this is the recommended therapy.  It can take several days to get better and even longer to get totally back to normal.  If you are not showing some improvement after 3 full days of therapy you should see you doctor again.  EWH

Hello again doctor, my next problem is I went to the doctor about a burning problem when I urinate and he found there to be an infection ( uti ) and was not sure what caused it. He tested me for chlamydia and goneria, he said it looked painfull and treated me with some kind of antibiotic shot as well as a 14 day persciption of doxycycline. I have been on the medication for 2 days now and it is still painfull is that normal? Als would this have anything to do with an hiv infection or hinder test results ??
