Help Doctor

Hello Doctor, I know I recently posted on here, but something very recently occurred that has me freaked out. The exposure I spoke of was two years ago, I hadn't tested like I said before until very recently for HIV and both tests I took were negative. I did the tests through stdexpress.com where I went to a labcorp through this company and then they told me the results online after labcorp took my sample. I was at my doctor last week and I told him about my exposures and the tests. He suggested I get one more test just to cleanse my mind. I got the test last Thursday and he called me today to say the results were inconclusive and that they want me to retest in 4-6 weeks. Now I'm very paranoid because I don't understand how this is possible. Shouldn't the first two tests have been conclusive and enough? What could possibly be the explanation for this?

Yes I had two negative Elisa's done through stdexpress.com. Then when I informed my doctor he asked if I would like one more test to make me feel better and I said sure, I guess they did a western blot which I found strange as well.
Thank you doctor.

Sorry, I misunderstood about your newest test result.

I'm not sure I understand the testing sequence.  If you had a negative ELISA, a Western blot should not have been done.  But apparently it was (perhaps because you talked your doctor into it?).  And now because of overtesting, you have a result that has served to elevate your anxieties.

The large majority of indeterminate HIV Western blot tests are false, especially when only the p24 band is positive.  You can remain confident you don't have HIV.  However, from here on out you'll need to rely on advice from the doctor you are seeing.  This forum can't help further.

I didn't mean to say my doctor meant my results were inconclusive. What happened was he ordered another test and when the results came back, my western blot was interminate because I had one band that bonded to the p24 antigen. He says I need to retest in 4 weeks. The exposure was two years ago, wouldn't a western blot be positive if I was positive? I'm very confused and nervous.

Your doctor is just being careful and conservative.  There is no chance you have HIV.

I'm not going to discuss it further.  And please note that MedHelp permits a maximum of 2 questions every 6 months on each of the professionally moderated forums.  No more permitted here before next November.

Really.  You're concerned about nothing. Suck it up, accept the scientific evidence and the reasoned reassurance you have had, and move on.
