Post 90 day test results

As I understand it, symptoms are not reflective of status, so I won't bother listing them.

I am a 27 yr-old male who had unprotected vaginal sex with a friend (she says she is negative and said recently tested negative)- who I found out to have been very sexually active.

For this reason I tested as follows:

29 days - 4th generation rapid test - NEGATIVE
31 days - PCR RNA - also NEGATIVE

Today, which is the 96th day post exposure, I had blood drawn for another HIV 1-2 antibody test. These results are expected in 3-4 days.

My questions:

1. Assuming I am negative, is there a need for further testing. I have seen recommendations for testing up to 1 year.

2. Based on your experience (assuming I have not exposed myself again) - what is the likelihood that my post 12 week results will also be negative?

Thank you

I do not have the result from 96 days post yet. I will have them in a few days.

Are you are saying that my previous tests at 4 weeks (rapid and RNA) were enough, in your opinion?

Welcome to our Forum.  The exposure you report was low risk. The likelihood that your friend has HIV is remarkably low, 1 in 10,000 on average and the risk from a single unprotected sexual exposure is 1 infection per 1000 acts of intercourse.  Thus, your mathematical risk of infection, before testing was about 1 in 10 million.

Now that you have been tested twice at times when the results are reliable.  The results of a 4th generation test at 28 days is completely reliable, so is your 96 ay test since antibody tests are reliable at any time more than 56 days following exposure.  Your test results prove you do not have HIV.

In my experience an everyone else's there is simply no way that you have HIV related to your exposure 96 days ago.  In fact, further testing is a waste of time and money- the results will not change.  EWH

I forgot to mention that at 4 weeks, I also did a full std screening panel - all negative.
