To erdemq:
I answerd your last question by mistake. If you have questions you need to start your own thread, not jump in on those of others. I would advise you however not to pursue anxiety-laden questions about how long the virus lives outside the body on inanimate objects. EWH
It depends on the environment and circumstances. I cannot give you a meaningful number of seconds or minutes. EWH
Doctor ,
How long hiv viruse can be active outside body?
Before I get to your questions, I should remind you that there are data to indicate that you are more likely to find yourself having sex with a HIV infected person if you meet them on line that if you meet them at a bar or other social setting. I remind this only in case you might not have been aware of this. You have to decide just how much risk is OK with you. Now for your questions:
1. If the toy was really previously unused, there was no risk to you. If he had used it on himself, the risk is small, and decreases rapidly with increasing time since he used it on himself. Sorry, I cannot give you how much risk decreases per hour - that is just not known and can be impacted by many variables. It does decrease very rapidly however.
2. The risk calculations for insertive vs. receptive oral sex are homogenized and, in my view, the distinction is a bit fuzzy. Having said that, it is logical to think that receptive oral sex is higher risk than insertive. Some have said that the risk for receptive oral sex is 1 in 10,0o0 and for insertive is 1 in 20,000. AS I said, I think these differentiations are "soft". Either way, the risk associated with oral sex is rather low.
3. To long for ARS. In addition ARS is very uncommon. I urge you not to worry about your symptoms. It is a waste of time.
4. Not on the basis of the exposures you describe. On the other hand, everyone should be tested every year or so as a matter of good preventative health, just as they should get their blood pressure and cholesterol checked
Hope this helps. EWH
