Oral sex by prostitute

Dear Doctor,

with the risk that I will look like a complete moron I need to ask you again if you think these are concerning symptoms. I did take the test 4 days ago and I am now losing it waiting for the result. I am 90% sure I got HIV looking at the fact that I have all these strange things going on with me.

Fact - I had oral sex with a prostitute (without condom) and then continued sex with condom. This was 28 days ago.

So far I have had the following symptoms:

1  -extremely bad headache that woke me up as I was asleep and within 1 hour I had to go to the ER. Some blood tests were done and spinal fluid was taken out. Was told that all was good except that blood tests showed maybe an infection in the body - doctor thinks I was getting over my cold. This is 8 days after the event. Never had a bad headache like that before or after. Head completely clenched with pain.

2  - my throat has been feeling very sore NOT pain but simply very scratchy and it feels like I have some infection in my lungs and throat. My tongue is burning at times and roof of my mouth is tingling. Looked at the roof of my mouth the other day and there were about 5-6 red spots looking like broken capilaries. Looked again after 2 days, some spots have united and now I have spots and one bigger red patch that feels a little raised and tender.  My throat is very red all around including the epiglottis. It does not hurt in the normal sense, not when I swallow, but all the time it feels dry and irritated - all the way down to my lungs.

3  -my knuckles (hands) are very dry as if they are almost going to bleed, looks like an eczema. My face is red and scull burning at times. My testicles, foreskin and head of penis also bright red - to purple sometimes. I feel pain in my penis - about 5 out of 10 and the are between my testicles and anus is burning at times.

4  - 2 days ago I had some strange pulsating pain on my left lower back - for about 6 hours. Then it went away.

I have read the whole thread, and i know that you have not got HIV.  I went through the same anxiety, i made a terrible mistake just like you too.  I lost sleep and alot of weight just with worry! You will be fine! It's just funny how the mind works, once you think you have it, then you just keep convincing yourself that you have HIV.  You just keep looking all over your body for signs and symptoms, and then you notice things on your body that have been there for years!

I had a test and it came back negative, but what helped me was that when i had the test, i knew that if there was anything wrong then they would contact me within 10 days.  As the days went by, my mind was gradually becoming more at ease.

Please stop worrying, it's not doing yourself any good! Try to enjoy Xmas, you'll look back and think how silly you were with the worry!

Again thank you for your comment. Did you really have the same symptoms that I have? The clear mucus, dry throat, the non painful cold sore, the bad headache and the rest I mentioned?  Talking about this really helps.

Thank you. I will try.I just see so many things that I have never had before - literally see them

-this canker sore in my mouth, more yellowish and not painfull, never had that - mine always hurt like hell

- the red spots on the roof of my mouth

-the tongue burning

-the redness and spots on my penis

-the dry redness on my throat

-the strange bruise on my hand that does not hurt and no idea where it came from...

this clear congestion that I have and need to blow my nose. The clear mucus indicates a virus otherwise it would have been green for an infection.

They are driving me crazy. The thing is, to my shame, that I did not worry about this until the first week when I got that bad headache and had to go to the emergency room - so it is hard to say that I created that or the rest. There are definitely things that just appeared. This is what concerns me the most. Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me. It does help.

Is there another forum that I should be addressing to besides the Anxiety forum ??? Are my symptoms close to another virus that is not  HIV?  Which?  I would like to talk to someone about it because really need some help please.

I have a beautiful wife and a 2 year old son. I have done a terrible mistake but I need someone not just to tell me that I don't have it but also why all these symptoms are canceled. The doctor did mention that some of these symptoms are indeed acute HIV related... but he said it can also be something else... BUT what else... can someone tell me what else please.

I have all these symptoms, that indeed cause a lot of anxiety but again - they can not be explained just as a cold or a non HIV Virus. I have had colds before - not with spots on the roof of my mouth, not with non painful canker sores and not with bruises on my hand.  

I am looking at my testicles and I see that the capilaries are very red, out of ordinary. I also have a dull pain around my prostate. These are not symptoms of a common cold - there is a genital problem here and when it is not genital related the other symptoms are too close to HIV not to be taken in consideration.

Please tell me another thing that causes you non - painful cold sores, rashes on your penis and testicles, spots on the roof of your mouth, burning tongue... can u tell me? I would be more calm if I knew that there is something like this...

The fact that I had that massive headache out of absolutely nothing  only proves a very severe attack on my body. I am not a guy that goes to the doctor a lot -  suddenly I get all these things coming at me at once - everyday something is going on... how can I explain this.


Doc says 99% I don't have it, I pray to God and everything from earth to the sky that I don't - but the things I see NOT feel BUT see on my body are very concerning.  Please read the letters above...

Thank you doctor. I will let you know the results next week. Today however a strange bruise appeared on my hand between my thumb and pointer on my left hand and also my penis is full of rashes and itchy - I did take a shower this morning.  None of these 2 seem like symptoms of a cold. So I am not sure what to think anymore. Bruise appeared out of nothing, skin looks dry around it. I also have a strange sensation of a stomachache - but does not hurt hard more of a sharp dull pain at times, just below my ribcage on the right side. None of these are symptoms of a cold - I stopped the canker pads to see if the cold sore hurts - it does not.

Please talk to me doctor. I am very scared.

Please stop the commentary.  Receipt of oral sex and protected intercourse is not high risk, if the CSW you had sex with was HIV infected and most CSWs are not.   While some of the symptoms you describe have some overlap with acute HIV, taken as a whole they are far more consistent with a non-STD community acquired viral infection than HIV.  I realize that you have had other viral infections but please realize that there is tremendous variation in these infections so it is not the least bit surprising that one (your current one) may be more severe than others.

You are 90% sure that you have HIV but I am 99.9% sure that you do not.  Wait for the test results--they will be negative and see the psychiatrist is you plan to.  I will not answer further posts to this thread as to do so will only fuel your concerns without any conceivable benefit to you.  Please try to get by this.  EWH

I am not sure how relevant are the below symptoms but I also want to mention them.

1. 3 days ago I had a hot spot on my back (sholder blade) - burning and then going away, than burning again - for 1-2 hours max on and off

2. I need to mention that when my testicles are red, that is about 80% of the time lately - if I touch them they are actually cold - but they look like they are burning, the feeling is also a burning sensation...

3. my eyes feel dry

I am continuing on this message as I went over the word limit.

5 - 2 days ago I woke up to see a small canker sore under my tongue (left side) - it was a dot 2 days ago - now it is about 2 mm. I am using  canker melts so I am not sure if it does not hurt because of them or because it is not supposed to hurt. Feels a little hard at touch.

6. - my sinuses are very congested and I need to blow my nose continuously - HOWEVER - when I do the snot is very clear and somehow thick - with a congestion like this I would say it would normally be yellow or gray or brown...

7. when the head of my penis is is bright red also it looks like I have to small red points on the tip of my penis (on the urethral orifice)

8. sometimes my nipples hurt

9. sometimes small red dots on my penis - NOT raised and more like pin needle - nothing big


I appologise if u think I am wasting your time but at this point I am so scared that my brain is completely in shock - I have this continuing burning in my throat and chest and every time I look at those spots and the redness in my throat I think I am going to faint of fear.

I have had a cold before but this is nothing like it. I don't feel sick like in a cold. Just have these symptoms that are freaking me out. I do not feel weak or sick as cold or flu- but my throat and mouth as well as genital area look like I do have an Infection in me - also lungs feel rashy.
Please let me know your opinion about this, it would really mean a lot to me. If you would like to take a look at some pictures that I took of my throat and mouth (at cost - not a problem if I have to pay) please let me know where I could send them.
