protected anal

Doctor,

I have an encounter with another man for a protected anal sex. ( I am the receiptive one). I supposed to feel ok after this encounter as the man put on a condom and he told me he just got tested for all the STDs 1 month prior to the encounter.

What made me worried is that 2 weeks post the encounter I was diagnosed of genital herpes. I don't know if I got hsv2 from him as he told me he never has an outbreak. Now I am getting nervious and worried. Is it possible that he had some herpes sores on the base of his penis which was not covered by the condom and I may have exposed to these sores. I know it's likely that I got hsv2 ( if from him) via this route, but is it possible that hiv can also be transmitted this way?  Although I didn't see any sores on this penis at that time.

I presume you are changing the topic and now asking about HIV. If so, the results of a 9 week test are definitive.  EWH

The biology of how the two infections is very different and complex. While HIV can spread to a person through a herpes lesion, you would not get HIV in a condom protected sex act even if you acquired herpes through skin to skin contact (which you do not know its the case).  HIV is not spread that way.  EWH

Doctor,

      Can you kindly let me know what are the reasons you think it is unlikely that why hsv2 can be transmitted via this route while hiv is unlikely to transmit via this way?

      Appreciate your feedback.

As I said before, an answer to both the questions you asked- HSV could have been transmitted from an area of his penis not covered by the condom and that the condom should have prevented you from getting HIV, if he was infected.  EWH

Doctor,

         I have asked the man several times and he said the condom was intact all the time. However, I am worried that Is it possible that hiv can be transmitted via the lesions( if any) which were not covered by the condom?

Thaks for the clarification.  Since your blood test was positive, the HSV outbreak you experienced may have been an infection that was acquired previously. Alternatively, it could have been due to lesions which were not covered by the condom. Either way, if the condom you use was intact throughout intercourse, you should not be at risk for HIV.  EWH

Is it possible that hiv can also be transmitted from the herpes soresto my rectum?
( if there were some sores on his pennis which was not covered by the condom and if he is positive)

Yes. I have an outbreak 1 week after the encounter. It was dignosed by blood test first and then a culture as well.

Welcome to the Forum.  Can you tell me how your herpes was diagnosed?  Did you have an outbreak?  How long did it last?  Did you have a positive culture or was it diagnosed witha blood test?  This information will help me in my comments to you.  EWH
