CT Scan of my 5 month old daughter

CT Scan of my 5 month old daughter

My 5 month old daughter  recently had a ct scan of her brain because her doctor felt she had cerebral palsy symptoms and had signs of hypertonia as well as developmental delays, I dont understand the ct scan findings listed below, and would like to know what my daughters condition entails, my daughter cannot  see her neurologist for another 2 months and i really need some answer now to ease mind. The findings are as follows, There is prominent  mega cisterna magna/persistent Blake cyst, a devolpmental variant  which communicates with the inferior fourth ventricle also there is moderate diffuse prominence to the ventricles and sulci, particularly the anterior third ventricle and left lateral ventricle likely secondary to diffuse cerebral volume loss likely from white matter changes. There is mild hypodensity in the genu and body of the corpus callosum.  Please help! Thank You.

Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your little one. A mega cistern magna is a very large retrocerebellar (behind the cerebellar part of brain) filled with CSF or cerebrospinal fluid. By itself it is not very serious. But along with moderate diffuse prominence to the ventricles and sulci (ventricles are normal spaces in brain that contain CSF, and sulci are folds in brain), there is a possibility of increased CSF formation and improper drainage. Together this can cause pressure changes in the brain. Diffuse white matter changes and cerebral (a part of brain) loss is definitely not good. Since I cannot examine the MRI slides and your baby, it is really very difficult to comment for sure. But, in all probability she may need a shunt, physiotherapy, and specialized counseling and monitoring. Please try for an earlier appointment based on this report. Maybe your pediatrician can help with that. Take care!
