Possible concussion?

Possible concussion?

I am in a bit of a quandary.

From what I have read online, one of the leading indicators of a concussion is having no memory of the incident. As well as nausea and a headache.

Apparently on Friday night, I fell on some stairs, hitting the back of my head. I say apparently because I was black out drunk at the time.(Yes, I am of the proper drinking age. No, I don't do this sort of thing every day, let alone every couple of months. I do not have a problem with alcohol, I simply can't keep up with my friends from the fraternity.) So I don't know if my lack of memory from the accident is merely from my drunkenness or from the "fall" or some combination of the both.

When I woke in my bed on Saturday morning, I was nauseous, had a throbbing headache, dizzy, all very indicative of both a hangover or a concussion. I spent the whole day lying in bed, drinking tons of fluids.

Sunday morning, I have some lingering pain in my Trapezius, starting at the shoulders and then reaching midway up the back of my head. It is mainly sore to the touch. I am unsure if the soreness on the back of my head is all muscle or if there is a bruise. I don't know if this was from my supposed fall (I do not know for certain that I fell) or if it was merely from the way I was propped up on my pillows all day watching online videos on my laptop Saturday.

So essentially, I have slept for 2 nights. I have no memory of the accident, and only some mild lingering sensitivity to touch in my neck, back of the head area. My pupils appear to be reacting normally.

As long as my symptoms remain as such and continue to improve, is it relatively safe to not visit a doctor? As far as I know, I don't have any history of head or neck injuries.

Thanks!

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since you have no memory of the accident, and since you had taken more alcohol than your body can tolerate, I suggest you consult a doctor once for complete examination. Some head injuries develop slowly, and since you cannot recollect the force of your fall, it would be best to get an evaluation.
If you have any of these symptoms: nausea, vomiting, excess sleep, severe headache, difficulty in walking and balance, tremors, seizures, vision problems, ringing in ears etc then consult a doctor immediately as these are signs of head injury. These symptoms develop if there is a brain injury or bleed. Since you had nausea, vomiting, excess sleep—whatever may be the cause—its best to get it evaluated in a setting of a fall that you do not have much recollection about.
Take care!
