Hi, Thank you for your question. Generally, one sided headache & orbital pain (eye pain) with numbness are common symptoms of migraine. The mainstay of the migraine treatment is always to identify the triggering factors and to avoid them. Triggering factors could be different foods such as cheese, chocolate, alcohol and even few fruits. Other factors that may induce your migraine attack may be stress or depression, bright lights, loud noise and traveling. I would suggest careful record of events that have proceeded with the attack and avoid those factors. In addition, try to rest in a dark & quiet room, meditate, have a balanced diet and avoid taking unnecessary drugs. Even then if you suffer continuous headache, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the further underlying disorders by clinically examine you & ordering MRI or CT scan here that may be the main reasons of your migraine attacks and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards!!!
Yes, make sure that she never misses her neurology appointments because an MRI can establish if she has had a minor stroke.
Day to day care: I have found that placing an ice pack at the back of the neck, a Cool Ezz Strip (found at walmart/vons) on her forehead, you can either get a gel pack for the eyes and resting 15 in the morning before getting started and 15 min. after coming home.
Wear sun glasses and take the meds as prescribed by the doctor.
If it gets real bad follow up with your doctor and ask about a Toradal Injection. This has helped me in the past and do the am/pm routine.
Avoid loud music, stress (hahahah) I know this is a tuffy but try to avoid arguments or emotional stressers as crying can bring on a migrine.
Best of luck.
