I went to Pepin Heart Center in Tampa, FL [www pepinheart org] they even have the area's first accredited Chest Pain Emergency Room. I know it's west central FL, but it's worth it to look into.
My EP was terrific, a little on the "business only" aspect; or so I thought from my first visit. When I had complications during my surgery, he sat with my mother in law and talked to her for about 20 min and explained everything, then came and checked on me and came back later that evening. He had to go to a conference out of town and even called to talk to me at his conference, he was concerned something else would happen before his partner put in my pacemaker/icd.
Pepin was a wonderful hospital; it's adjacent to University Community Hospital. The staff and doctors were great and I got an upgrade to the VIP suite when my room wasn't ready - which would have cost triple. They told me as long as no one else came in who requested the room, I could stay in it...4 days! lol It was HUGE and the bathroom alone is probably as big as a regular hospital room.
The nurses were wonderful, with the exception of 1 :P I never lacked anything and it was a great vacation for me, sorry couldn't resist that. Even when I couldn't eat, they went to the main hospital and got me a turkey sandwhich just so I could eat something.
Their site says: Our physicians and clinical specialists have built a comprehensive cardiovascular program with the experience of providing over 76,000 angioplasty procedures and over 11,000 open heart surgeries
But I'm not sure on ablations, I think that would depend on which physician you chose. I saw a couple of cardiologists and EP's and chose the one I felt most comfortable with doing my surgery.
I had an ablation (actually 3 eventually done) that took care of my atrial flutter. They didn't even know I had it before they went in. Just thought it was routine PSVT. The flutter seems to have disappeared since the first ablation.
A-fib is more difficult to zap out of existence and a mini-maze or maze procedure may be needed.
I'm in Oregon so can't help you with Florida EP's. Sorry.
Has your doctor said anything about having a heart maze? It's supposed to be better than an ablation.
