The main thing it to avoid using the arms too much such as vacuuming, washing kichen floors etc. He needs to take the medications as prescribed by the doctor and to make sure to take the Plavix for as long as the doctor prescribes. Some doctors prescribe taking the Plavix for a lifetime and other prescribed it for 6 month to a year. Plavix really helps avoid the blood clots. Shortness of breath when walking would be a warning sign that something is wrong and he should let his doctor know if this happens.
Just make sure he takes it easy when he comes home, don't over do it , and does not pick anything heavy up. My boyfriend had the same thing in October and he really should not have tried to do what he was doing. I think that he over did it and caused more problems. Make sure that he also takes all medications prescribed and even the do not tell him when he leaves the hospital make sure that even if they put him on a blood thinner such as Plavix that he also takes a 81mg Aspirin a day. They did not tell us this when we left the hospital but we later found that out and it does seem to help. The only thing he need to make sure is that for the 1st week or so he does not take them at the same time, however after that he can take them together and will not cause any problem.
