Could this be heart disease

I had a sudden onset of edema and weight gain from my waist to my feet. I also had a sudden onset of night sweats. I have no shortness of breath. I had a normal echocardiogram. Lasik brought the swelling down some but I am still swelling.

I am type 1 diabetic, hypertensive, and stage 3 kidney disease. Since I have no shortness of breath and a normal echocardiogram is this likely to be some sort of heart disease?

Before all the symptoms started, I had a mammogram and they ask me if I have had shortness of breath because my xray look like signs of congestive heart failure.

Thank You for you response. My cardiologist and kidney doctors are on the case. Neither seems to think its the kidneys or the heart. They are looking at other locations.

It does mimic the symptoms of congestive heart failure, but could also be from the kidney disease.  Have they suggested to you that you have COPD?  This can cause the colleciton of fluids. But like with CHF it brings on SOB.
