Creatine Kinase

Had a cath done a month ago which revealed all normal arteries,
however I still get chest pain in the sternum region.Went to ER and all bloods normal except cretine kinase which was elevated. They said I was ok and sent me home.Does anyone know the ramifications of high ck levels in the blood.
Regards,
Dimi

Creatine kinase is a muscle enzyme that is elevated in the blood following some kind of muscle damage.  It can be elevated from going to the gym and lifting weights or doing any kind of vigorous exercise or it can be elevated for other reasons.  Some people that take statins have CK elevation because statins can cause muscle cell death, on a micro scale that is not significant; very, very rarely statins can cause a more significant muscle cell death.  CK elevations are seen frequently and the reason is never revealed.  If it's a significant elevation, you should have it tested again in a few weeks.

When I had a HUGE blood workup done and got the results I wasn't sure what some of them were for so I started looking online (not always the smartest idea).  I found a site called labstestsonline.  I thought it was really helpful and breaking some of the info down for me.  I would never recommend this over asking your doc but I took the information I got from there and how it related to my own results back to my doc when I went for my followup visit.

You can look by test; like CK or other ways.

Good luck, I hope it helps.
