QUESTION: My dad has had an Echo recently and the results shows dialated LV & LA along with EF of 29%. Also says there is pulmonary Hypertension.
Can this be cured using medication...he is 65 years old.
>>>It depends on the underlying cause. For instance if the heart is over worked due to high blood pressure, medicinal control of blood pressure can cause the heart to return to normal size. So knowing the underlying cause can provide some ability to prognosticate.
Could be a heart valve, heart muscle damage, etc.
High pulmonary pressure usually effects the right side of the heart. Pulmonary hypertension generally results from constriction, or stiffening, of the pulmonary arteries that supply blood to the lungs. Consequently, it becomes more difficult for the heart to pump blood forward through the lungs.
There are no cures, but medication can slow or stop any progression.
Hi,
My dad has had an Echo recently and the results shows dialated LV & LA along with EF of 29%. Also says there is pulmonary Hypertension.
Can this be cured using medication...he is 65 years old.
Pls advise
You should get an understanding why there is an enlargement of the left side of your heart. Global hypokinesis indicates there is some impairment to heart wall movement (left ventricle) and that would explain an ejection fraction of 50%. Normal EF is approximately 55 to 75% and that is the amount of blood pumped from the left ventricle with each heartbeat.
Treatment for the underlying cause will prevent any progression and possibly reverse the mildly enlarged chambers.
