Enlarged Heart

My husband which is 38 years old had his 6 month check (being a year away from his neurophrectomy which meaning had kidney cancer ate through his kidney and he had to have his left kidney took out on his 37th birthday)but anyway he had his chest x ray, abdominal CT done and his blood work and his kidney Dr came in and said his chest x ray showed a very large enlarged heart and he was very concerned and wanted my husband to see his regular DR so he will see her Tuesday but is this something to be worried about?? Is it a serious thing. His blood pressure was great 120/80 so that was great. We are just worried so much.He has already been through so much in the last year, plus he now has 2 ruptured disc in his back and he is in so much pain, and has to take pain meds everyday, just had his third epidural yesterday,so he really dont need something else to happen.Just worried and concerned.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your Father, and 58 was young :(

I would certainly see your Doctor and explain the circumstances. I think your Doctor may want to run some routine tests to be on the safe side and establish your risk factors.

Just sending good thoughts your way, that's a lot to deal with, especially so young.  I don't know what his cancer treatment involved, but his heart may have felt the effects of that.  If that's the case, it's possible for improvement.  I send you best wishes.

My heart goes out to you both............just wait and see what the doctor says.  Enlarged hearts CAN be managed, and even go back to normal size.  I am living proof of that.  If he had chemo, this might be a rare side effect.  In the meantime.............cut out the sodium.  Try to keep it under 2000mg/day,

What did his blood work say in relation to anemia.  Servere anemia could be a possible cause of an enlarged heart.  Since anemia is common with kidney disease this would be my first unprofessional thought of what is happening.  Best of luck with your doctors, at least know that I have said a prayer for you and your husband.
