Getting up from lying position

Sometimes when im lying down for a long period of time and get up fast, I notice my heart pounds sort of.  It starts beating harder and stronger for a brief amount of time.  this happens sometimes if i get up fast from a lieing position.  Is this a normal response? Or is this an indication something else is going on?

When you wake-up check your heart rate in bed, then when you get-up. If your heart rate increases by 30 beats its called Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

Take your blood pressure lying down and then standing up.  You might notice a large difference.  Several medications will make you dizzy if you stand up too quick.  I often get dizzy to the point of nausea when I stand up after taking my evening meds.  My cardiologist told me it will be better for me to live with the dizziness.  I would talk to a doctor about it.

I get that too.  It pounds slow and hard when I first stand (can be from just sitting) then it moves into a faster, lighter (normal) beating.  Dehydration is the biggest culprit in this, for me.  Are you getting enough fluids?

Also try just getting up slower.

I believe this is normal and can happen after sitting for a period of time as well. I think the heart is compensating for gravity and is simply a reflex action to prevent one from fainting or becoming light headed.

I feel pretty much the same thing...  They say if you feel dizzy/light headed or faint when getting up from sitting or lying down - then there could be a problem with the reflex action being weak and not being able to compensate for the change in blood pressure or something like that. But again - simply feeling your heart beat a little harder/faster and even feeling a little pressure in your head is typical.
