Heart Disease

I had a stress test and ultra sound done which showed my ascending arota dilated. My doctor order a mri to determine what the size was, which showed it to be 3.4. I went to see cardio doctor and he stated that it is nothing to worry about. Just really not feeling real comfortable with that statement. I was also diagnosed with mitral valve prolaspe back in 1998. My heart rate has always been slow..down to 43/ 45 at times and BP when checked today was 100/52 with heart rate of 56. Cardio doctor also stated that mri didn't show that I had the prolaspe. Can it just  disappear over the years and should I be concerned with the 3.4 dilation?

Q: "Can it just  disappear over the years and should I be concerned with the 3.4 dilation?"

>>>There is some medication that may help and possibly reverse conditin with a beta blocker, calcium channel blockers, you may discuss that with your doctor.

For some insight, an enlarged aorta is considered an aneurysm when the aortic diameter ≥4.0cm,  and 5.0 cm or twice the diameter of the normal contiguous aorta may begin to view an option for surgery to prevent rupture and rapid expansion is another consideration... greater than 1 cm per year.

There may be a different perspective for analysis of Marfin disease or a bicuspid aorta valve.  These conditions are a tissue disorder and are more vulnerable and  there should be no heavy lifting and absolute control of blood pressure.

Thanks for your question and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care, and I wish you well going forward.

I wouldn’t worry about the dilation that much, but would very worry about smoking. Working out is great as you stated in your profile you do work out? That is a huge part what we can do for our healthy heart.  Congratulation for that.
But doesn’t your cardiologist know about your smoking? If you working on to get rid of that ‘poison’ let us know. I would like to be the first one to congratulate you on that also!:)
Take good care of yourself! And thank you to be honest about your bad habit! You still very young, it is not impossible, and than you really can be proud of yourself! Best of luck!
