wow, you were one of the lucky ones. I also have lupus, maybe that was the different.
Brings back memories this. I lost count how many times my wife swung her arm out in her sleep and whacked my chest. I groaned loudly a lot in my sleep too which annoyed her. It got to 9 months with me and I was sick of the pains when trying to turn over in bed. I took to a small settee which was a two seater. I had to curl up on it and within
just two weeks my pains were all gone. To turn over, I had to wake up, sit up and slowly
curl up on my opposite side. But after two weeks I was turning over with no pains at all.
I had the same problem. I had to lie on my back almost a year and even in the next year I had problems trying to sleep on my side. It took me about a year and a half before I could sleep on my side. I do not see why you can"t sleep in the same bed, although when I can home I was sleeping in another bed before I had surgery. I tried to sleep with husband, but it really bothered me whenever he would move. So I would say it took me about two years, but remember everyone is different,it may not take you that long. Good luck!
